Loved it! Best hot dogs in the Triangle, and they’ve been family-owned since 1940. It doesn’t get any better than that.

If you are where NEAR this establishment and you don't stop in your cra cra. My first trip to the grill was 1979 as a freshman at NC State. My roomate was born and bread in Raleigh and one day after I bought 1970 Pontiac Lemans he took me downtown !!!
At that time Georges Mom ( everyone back then called her "grandma" was running the grill. Her name was Freid and she was Greek i am almost positive. They have like 2 four tops and old classic stools and the counter. If you ordered your dogs and wanted them real grilled on that flat top you would say " Grandma - Black please" ; that meant she would grill those babies until the skin blistered and turned black !!!!
Oh and DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT ask for Ketchup/Catsup !
Old School, Basic and Simple and freakin Awesome. Lost Gem !

Born and raised in Raleigh, been here almost 25 years cumulatively. For whatever reason I never went into Roast Grill, even after seeing them on Man V Food as a kid.
Today I finally went in. I was the only one in there (I went in after lunch rush) and I ordered two dogs, some BBQ chips, and a coke. The dogs were fantastic, but what made the experience was the owners. The first thing they asked was “first time in here?”. I smiled like a little kid at that exchange. It was extremely poetic like I was fulfilling this missing experience from my childhood. We chatted about life briefly, and when it was time to pay I realized I had no cash. The owner said “don’t worry about that now, I want you to enjoy that dog”. I about started crying.
Thank you Roast Grill, my experience today meant a lot.
Best hotdogs on Raleigh! I'm not one for Chilli, but with a little convincing, I tried it on the hotdogs. Best choice I made that day. It's important to know, they are CASH only, look at the menu online and bring the appropriate cash, you wont regret it.

A relic of a bygone time in the best way possible. Patrons of note snipped all over the back wall, the old-fashioned hot dogs cooked right in front of you by the owner and chef. It felt like a mom and pop cooking for the family. "Warm and friendly" doesn't do it justice.
Buddy of mine ordered a bottle of coke and it came with a complimentary pack of Planters peanuts, and all meals are ended with a small, free Tootsie Roll. They take care of you here. You get a sense of community, even if it's your first time.
I ordered two all-the-way hot dogs (mustard, onions, slaw, and chili), and it was the best ten bucks I'd ever spent. Perfectly classic.
They also serve brats, homemade pound cake, and homemade baklava. Those are on the agenda for next time, for sure!
