This month marks 70 years since I walked into the Roast Grill and George’s grandfather made my first Roast Grill hot dog - August 1955. I continue to stop by regularly for my 70 year Roast Grill addiction. George, I expect to be there when you serve your last Roast Grill Hot Weiner. -Robert Roberson

Hotdogs are $4 & the chilli was scotched. The hotdogs are very small. No bright leaf hotdogs & no ketchup if you looking for an all the way hotdogs. The place looks ruined down on the outside. Owners were nice but sanitation was not up to par for me. I won't ever return. It's located 1 block from Holiday Inn downtown and operate on some real crazy hours.

This is my favorite place in Raleigh for lunch by a long shot, and I bring everyone who visits. It’s a true piece of history, and the owners will happily tell you all about it! Super limited menu, just get all the toppings and ask for a hot sauce to get the full experience! Limited space and cash only however, just keep that in mind

Sweet little stop. It's a treat & experience you owe yourself. Keep it alive and check it out.

Is this place still open - I went last Wednesday and no one was there.

Great place full of history and fun. The hot dogs are great, and the Chili sauce just tops it off. Stop here and get a great dog.

We were recently making some train reservations and stopped at the Roast Grill for lunch. Burnt dogs with mustard, homemade chili, and slaw, along with a small Coke in a bottle. A tootsie roll was provided for dessert. We don't get there often enough, but if you are looking for a perfect hot dog, this is the place. George gets the dog to the perfect degree of cooked that you request and the homemade chili is delicious. If you have never experienced this treat, do yourself a favor and pay them a visit - and bring cash!

Loved it! Best hot dogs in the Triangle, and they’ve been family-owned since 1940. It doesn’t get any better than that.

I had an amazing experience. The vibe was welcoming and the lady that was cooking was just so sweet!! I love the decoration and how they keep it retro. 10/10 best hotdog in town!

If you are where NEAR this establishment and you don't stop in your cra cra. My first trip to the grill was 1979 as a freshman at NC State. My roomate was born and bread in Raleigh and one day after I bought 1970 Pontiac Lemans he took me downtown !!!
At that time Georges Mom ( everyone back then called her "grandma" was running the grill. Her name was Freid and she was Greek i am almost positive. They have like 2 four tops and old classic stools and the counter. If you ordered your dogs and wanted them real grilled on that flat top you would say " Grandma - Black please" ; that meant she would grill those babies until the skin blistered and turned black !!!!
Oh and DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT ask for Ketchup/Catsup !
Old School, Basic and Simple and freakin Awesome. Lost Gem !
