This month marks 70 years since I walked into the Roast Grill and George’s grandfather made my first Roast Grill hot dog - August 1955. This is my favorite place in Raleigh for lunch by a long shot, and I bring everyone who visits. It’s a true piece of history, and the owners will happily tell you all about it! Super limited menu, just get all the toppings and ask for a hot sauce to get the full experience! Limited space and cash only however, just keep that in mind
We were recently making some train reservations and stopped at the Roast Grill for lunch. Burnt dogs with mustard, homemade chili, and slaw, along with a small Coke in a bottle. A tootsie roll was provided for dessert. We don't get there often enough, but if you are looking for a perfect hot dog, this is the place. George gets the dog to the perfect degree of cooked that you request and the homemade chili is delicious. If you have never experienced this treat, do yourself...
