I’m the kind of girl who wakes up and goes to sleep with only one thing on her mind: breakfast sandwiches. I’m the kind of girl who thinks a breakfast sandwich can cure anything. I’m the kind of girl who spends decades dreaming about the best breakfast sandwiches she’s ever had. And let me tell you something about Union Specials signature breakfast sandwich. A hashbrown on the sandwich!!! The perfect cheese!! The perfect fluffy bread. Yall. I love a wide range of breakfast sandwiches and union specials has become one of my cornerstones. And beyond the breakfast sandwich, the coffee? Perfect. Orange juice? Perfect. Pancake special? Perfect. No notes. Never misses. (Accidentally deleted my review so reposting)

Today I went here for the first time. Honestly a disappointment. Ordered chicken salad sandwich, and a market hash. It took 20+ mins for this order to be ready. Not sure why it took so long considering a chicken salad is usually prepped in advance. On top of that sandwich bread was hard. Market hash bowl was pretty good no complaints there. Was told that sandwich comes with a side but then was charged an extra 4$ for home fries. Asked cashier if this side is included and she said yes. Did not realise I was being charged extra for a side until after ordering and paying. If there was an up charge for that side that’s not problem, but typical protocol is inform customer there’s an up charge. So all in all, service is slow, bread was hard, and upcharged without being informed.

Cool, hip bakery. Located at 440 and capital. Food is good not special. Other bakeries excel at desert bakery items. This places seems to focus on Sandwiches. Very diverse gathering spot makes it neat. Relatively quiet spot unless the work from restaurant folks are here. My hubby loved his turkey sandwich. I think my croissant from Lidil was just as good and tasty. You can definitely zone out here for a while if you’re seeking Down time.

The person taking my order was visibly sick and I found two hairs in my salad. It’s sad but I worry about their commitment to sanitation. Nobody should be handing food while sick.

I love this place for the fact that they have an incredible hot vegan sandwich, which is so hard to find around here. The food is always so fresh and good, and the service is very friendly. The worst part about this place is that they are not open all the time!!

Clean and simple spot! I like that it's calm and not overstimulating. Had a tasty grilled cheese with tomato soup, which was a good portion for a quick meal/snack. The iced coffee is good too.

what a lovely find! stopped in for a quick lunch and got probably the best egg sandwich i have ever eaten. the bread was so soft and everything tasted so fresh. it was also a great portion size for the price. i dropped some salad at the end of my meal and while trying to clean my mess, i was very kindly informed by a staff member that they were happy to take care of it. i will most definitely be coming back :-)

This spot is positive and progressive with good service and a warm atmosphere. However, the monkey bread was burnt and over cooked. The Market Hash was mostly potatoes and beets, the side salad was green, that’s it. This leaves much to be desired. We won’t come here again.

Lots of natural bright light and wide open area to lounge. Superb. Absolutely loved their breakfast sandwich! Also appreciate that they serve a side salad with their entrees. Bathroom had extra hygiene options too; made me reminisce of when I lived in Tokyo. Staff was great as well and coffee was delicious. I would add honey as option for sweetener.

The union special egg/hash brown sandwich was decent, but a bit plain. I also recommend the hash brown at least on the side, with the option to add it yourself later. It was a bit too salty, and despite seeming to be freshly fried it lacked flavor and texture. The sauce was a bit too sweet, but the brioche was pretty standard in a good way.If you're willing to pay a few extra bucks for an elevated breakfast sandwich, this might be your place. But I thought it was decent.

The food is always good. The service is a bit up-and-down. The breakfast bowls are big and have a restaurant/gourmet field. I really like the New York style crumb cake the best the cookies seem very flat and flaccid which is strange because when the guy who started union special was at The chocolate/black and white as a pop-up shop before they got the real place. He had his cookies there and they were large plump and delicious like a Reuben painting. The coffee is pretty much consistent and on point and would be a step above a third wave coffee joint.
