Being familiar with the locations of this restaurant in Southport, Leland and Wilmington, we were excited to have one open closer to home. We have been here a number of times since they opened in July and find it consistently better than the other locations (which are very good too!). It is THE BEST bbq and brisket in the area, period! There’s really no debate. The portions are large (typically a half pound). And the prices reasonable. If you order a multi-meat plate, most restaurants give you less of each meat. Not the smokehouse! I can put away some food but always leave here with leftovers. Great sides, a sauce bar and a staff that appears to enjoy what they do and actually provide great service.

Never got service. Never even got asked what we wanted to eat. Never got told ... there's only TWO people working, we're sorry for the delay, we'll be with you as soon as possible. We walked out. HIRE MORE PEOPLE or close it down.

I had to drop two stars because of the service and quality of the brisket. They have young kids working without adult supervision, they gave me pulled pork after paying for brisket and the brisket was half meat and half fatty slabs that I threw in the trash, the trash cans were filled to the top and running out on the floor, hopefully they will get it together before I visit again

We’ve been to three of the Smokehouse restaurants in the area over the past several years, Southport, Leland, and Shallotte. Leland has become dirty and run down bathrooms are filthy. We were pleased to try the new outlet in Shallotte close to home when it first opened, but our enthusiasm has waned. We’ve been to the Shallotte location a few times, however the meat preparation has evolved into being way too spicy. Unlike the Southport location. The pit master at Shallotte is very heavy handed with the spice. During our last visit the brisket was too spicy and cooked too fast. The brisket was burnt on the outside but the fatty tissue inside didn’t have time to break down. The ribs were inedible because they were also too hot and spicy. We’ll have to return to the southport location if we want our fix of BBQ. The southport pit master needs to train the one over in Shallotte.

Went in a few days ago for the first time to try the brisket. I had mentioned it before purchasing any and they let me sample it. I can honestly say it’s some of the best brisket in town and I bet their other meats are just as good.
