Rude. Dirty. Disrespectful.

If you're vacationing in West Jefferson, avoid The Coffee House Restaurant at all costs. My family and I stopped in this morning, and it was a complete embarrassment from start to finish, actually scratch that, we never even made it to the “start.”

We stood at the entrance for over 15 minutes while staff walked by us repeatedly and intentionally ignored us. Not a hello. Not a “we’ll be right with you.” Nothing. We weren’t invisible—we were just not locals, and that seems to be the problem. If you're not a regular they know by name, you're not worth their time.

We would’ve seated ourselves at the bar just to get out of the way, but it was filthy with dirty plates, crumbs, and uncleaned surfaces everywhere. The place looked like no one cared, and no one did.

Eventually, we left and went across the street to McDonald’s, where the staff actually acknowledged our existence and treated us with basic decency, something this place couldn’t manage with a full waitstaff walking around.

It’s clear this restaurant plays favorites and treats tourists like a nuisance. It doesn’t matter how good the food might be if the first course is disrespect. Skip it. Your time, money, and self-respect are better spent elsewhere.

We ate breakfast here for Father’s Day, we were seated immediately - but the place was pretty busy.
We ordered within the first 5 minutes or so and then proceeded to wait 75 minutes for our food.

Our waitress was kind, and helpful - but seemed to be the only one working. There was also only one cook on the grills.

It was so loud in there that it was overwhelming, and made the long wait almost unbearable. We almost left after the first 30 minutes but decided to stick it out.

Most of our food was really good - especially the eggs, bacon, and gravy - but the chopped steak was very bland.

Overall, the food would be worth the price and worth a typical 15 minute wait, but we will likely not return due to the extremely long wait time.

The biggest problem seems to be the limited seating available.

Waitress was wonderful food sucked. You gotta work pretty hard to mess up breakfast. My toast came out as white bread, no color at all. My scrambled eggs came out as two eggs fried and then scrambled in the pan with a chunk of cheese. The grits were creamy and bland. The best thing on my plate was the sausage links….
Don’t waste your time and be warned

Not sure if the servers are trying to serve food or themselves. There’s a difference in friendliness and flirting 😠

This is a small little place but very big on greatness. The food and service were wonderful. Everything was perfectly prepared and our waitress was very sweet. Highly recommend

Great food and service every time I've been. If your a night owl and don't really want breakfast food you can get a burger and fries anytime. Staff super friendly and decent priced.

I eat out way more than most. I eat breakfast out 3 or4 days a week. I will not return. They DEEP FRY the bacon and sausage. Why do they insist on ruining these breakfast staples. It's the closest place to eat breakfast but I only enjoy properly cooked food.

We went to the Coffee House today, Nov. 1,2024. Menus were handed to us and were torn, badly frayed and absolutely filthy. Before sitting at this table, we found a few tables dirty- we're not cleaned after people had eaten. We finally found a somewhat clean table. We ordered sweet teas to drink which were quickly brought to us. As the waitress put the teas on the table, I explained we are celiac and can't have anything gluten. She said she didn't understand and I explained bread, breaded items, anything with gluten. She said "everything is cooked on the grill" I then asked if they could clean just a small part to cook our food on to avoid contamination and the sickness that occurs with it. I was told " no, we have to clean the whole grill, we can't just clean a part for you, you need to come later towards the end of the night then maybe we might could clean it" I apologized and said I'm not being picky, this is a serious medical condition I am asking you to accommodate.. She again said they wouldn't clean the grill whether a part or whole grill.. I then asked for the teas to go and told her I was not happy they wouldn't even try to accommodate a serious medical need..she just laughed, shrugged her shoulders and said "sorry, I just can't have them clean the grill just for you ". There was no accommodating a serious medical need, no care to do anything whatsoever or concern by anyone working to try to do anything. If you can't accommodate celiac customers, fine, but you don't have to be so rude and disrespectful..

This place was slammed Sunday 10/6 after the storm, although my order was wrong, and so was that of those around me. The staff was doing everything they could to get it right and qet a dozen orders out. Food was hot frash and good. People were friendly. Couldn't ask for more with everything going on. I wish every restaurant could learn from this team that was doing everything possible to get it right!
