Staff brought us the wrong order then decided to talk to us like idiots. My family will never go back to this restaurant and be mistreated
Crying young lady in booth next us before we were seated. Cold stale chips, cold food (the only thing that was warm was the gobs of cheese sauce), left over beans and rice, overpriced and overcooked meat. One of the worst Mexican food places around.Parking: Some of the parking spots are on a hill and hard for getting out of car.

Quite confident it's one of the best, if not the absolute best, Mexican Restaurants in the high country. Fantastic portions, great food, reasonable prices. Always a treat.

Updated review (2023; 4 stars) - Monte D Rey is still far from being the best Mexican restaurant in the High Country, but it has definitely made improvements over the past year. I no longer drink, so I cannot comment on the margaritas but I can attest that the food quality and flavor has improved. I ordered a steak soft taco supreme tonight and the flavors were so good - so savory and the tortilla was perfect. Very large portion for a taco and it was very filling. Service was great. I'm convinced that they have the BEST Mr. Pibb and my cup never got more than half empty thanks to my great server.Original review (2022; 3 stars) - We've been to Monte D Rey twice now. The first time wasn't great so we gave it another go recently, months after our first visit. Second visit was no better than the first.The service is decent but the food and drinks leave much to be desired. The rice was stale both times. Our alcoholic beverages tasted so bad that we had to mix them with soda to make them drinkable. My quesadilla was filled with the tiniest sprinkle of cheese and my partner's burrito was filled with mostly lettuce.
