This WAS a great restaurant, but unfortunately closed (since July 2019, I understand). 2.5 hr drive from Raleigh, but it was worth it. Why not open the Candlenut in Raleigh? Maybe better market for Indonesian food than Wilmington?

Excellent, well prepared, tasty food. The lamb satay was perfect as were the shrimp fritters. Beer selection is a bit limited but the ones stocked are flavorful. Very affordable and portion size is spot on.

Lovely gem! Have you ever experienced a meal so authentic, so flavorful and satisfying you can taste the care it took to prepare it to make it great. That is the experience I had here! Not only was the food great but owner/cook came to my table twice to make sure I was enjoying his creations. I had the spring rolls and the veggie fried noodles, was so into my meal I missed talking pictures. Before I left the owners wife came over and gave me 2 sauces to try at home. This restaurant is tucked away so it does not get a lot of customers but it would be to your advantage to take the time to go. I will definitely be returning.

We have dined at Candle Nut three times before but decided that I must write about the quality and authenticity of the meals served here. I am from that part of the world and have searched for the perfect beef rendang. This is it! Their other dished are delicious and true to the taste of Indonesia, Java and Malaysia. Can't go wrong with any choices you make.

Good quality food, but I can't get my family or friends to go due to the same people, some say they are the cooks sitting in the front of entrance smoking! it makes the place less appealing..

Nice staff, but the venue and food are just okay. Not surprisingly we were the only diners there for several hours.

Have been multiple times. Shrimp fritters are the best of the apps but all are good. Had Chicken Curry last time and it was awesome. Truly unique food.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this place. The staff is excellent and friendly. The owner greeted us at the door and seated us then Jennifer promptly took our drinks. The food itself was cooked well and full of amazing flavor. I had the Beef Rendang, which was a slow cooked beef, and it was tender and oh so good.

asian food and the feeling at this place is great. Service is always prompt even when they have a full house. Food is similar to a place in San Francisco I liked.

8 of us had a great dinner last night at Candle Nut. First, not sure if they usually take reservations but when I called over a week in advance to see they didn't hesitate in saying "yes". Table was ready when we arrived. Service was great and friendly. My wife and I were the only ones who had been there before (though it was at their previous location on Front Street). we had 8 people ordering 7 different dishes, so quite a variation in food served. And a broad range of spice levels requested, from a 3 to a 9. Everyone was happy. Towards the end of our meal the owners came out to chat and that too was wonderful. We'll be back and highly recommend them.

We just ate lunch at this hidden gem. We started with the shrimp fritter that was moist, crunchie slightly spiced and delicious. We then slurped down a shared Javanese Chicken souptjat is ginger and Tumeric based with veg and rice noodles. We finished with two entrees, the Chicken Curry and the Bali Chicken dishes which were the best we've tasted. Find this place and enjoy!!!

Wonderful place! Awesome, authentic food. The spring rolls were amazing!!! The owner/cook personally came out to ask us how everything turned out! Definitely coming again!

Went here last week for lunch with a friend. I've had this place bookmarked for a while (from before it moved from downtown to its current location on Market St), and it's really good. I kept it pretty simple and got the lunch special veggie fried noodles and added shrimp. I got the fritter instead of the soup of the day. My friend got the collard green curry, at the recommendation of our server, and she said it was delicious! I want to try that next time. This is definitely a great spot to try if you like Indochine but don't want to pay the Indochine prices. Indochine's atmosphere is better, but the food at Candle Nut is just as good, if not better, than Indochine's. You also don't have to deal with the overly crowded ladies room!
