Bagels on Pointe

This place is a hidden gem, especially in the South, where replicating authentic New York–style bagels is no small feat. The people are awesome the workers are super efficient and great people. Bagels on pointe deserves some recognition from all Long Island New Yorkers who live down south in Wilmington. It’s hard to find a good bagel spot like this in the South.

I went here for lunch today and we ordered 3 bagels. Only one of the bagels came out correct and the other two were completely mixed up including meat. I have dietary restrictions and cannot eat red meat or pork and when we went up to the counter to ask which sandwich was supposed to be which the girl acted like she didn’t know what we were talking about in spite of us being the only two people in the restaurant. We tried to explain the issue and I stated that I needed not to have real sausage and she seemed to understand and took our bagels to the back. When the bagels came out, it was clear they just switched some of the components on the inside because the cheese was still leftover from the first mess up (we had different cheese on each sandwich). It also wasn’t clear if they had ended up actually switching the meat to the correct substitute. To us it wasn’t that big of a deal because I don’t have cross contamination issues but it was clear that they didn’t care much about the possible allergens. I don’t normally write reviews but I would like to make a point that this can be a huge liability if someone has bad allergies and if they come to you saying they cannot eat something, please actually remake the food correctly.

There's no place like this in Wilmington, and boy are we glad we found it. Yeah, there are bagel offerings in other restaurants, but the variety here is outstanding, the selections are always fresh, the menu (a bit limited, though more than enough for us), offers good choices at reasonable and competitive prices with fresh ingredients, and the service is always, always, always the most pleasant. It's a rare place that I have ever said this about: I would eat here every day if I could and never get tired of the food or the company.

They used a really strong cleaner for the store that you can smell right as you walked in and could faintly taste it in the bagels since they are sitting out
