My husband and I went here for appetizers and dessert on my birthday a few days ago. Julian helped us and was so amazing. Not only did he give us food recommendations, but he also highlighted other spots to go.
The food was INCREDIBLE. We had the clam chowder, the tuna tartare, and apple pie for dessert. I'm not a fan of tuna, but I tried it and it was fabulous! Thank you Pilot House and Julian! We will definitely come back when we are in the area.

Thanksgiving dinner. Initially placed in a tent with no heat. Complained and was moved into restaurant under air vent. Air on, 50* outside. Got it turned off. 4 course meal, shrimp/crab in portobello mushroom, 4” mushroom with filler. Salad good, so was wine, that’s it. Turkey was a turkey loaf. Wife had prime rib, was a tough wafer. Pumpkin cheesecake in a small aluminum pie plate. All for $50/person, plus pre-set 20% gratuity. Never again!

Totally enjoyed our Thanksgiving Dinner tonight with family and friends,The food was absolutely Phenomal, our server Wendy did a fantastic job, a well as all the employees i saw tonight, not one of them seemed stressed out or upset, the resturant ran like it was just another day, The atmosphere was on point!! Being a former server for 38 years it was such a great experience . Again Thank You wendy for taking such good care of all 7 of us!!!😎

This Friday, I visited the Pilot House for a romantic evening, and the experience was exceptional. Our server displayed a highly personalized and attentive attitude throughout, adding special touches to our night. The food was outstanding; we enjoyed the North Carolina shrimp and grits, beef short ribs, and baked crab dip. The crab dip had a wonderfully fresh, oceanic flavor, and the sides with the beef ribs were delicious. The mashed potatoes were likely the fluffiest I've ever tasted, with a perfect texture. We received a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. At the end of our meal, a manager or the general manager came to inquire about our experience, and we expressed our eagerness to return. All in all, I would rate it a perfect 11 out of 10, and we plan to come back soon.

THE PILOT HOUSE’- This most enchanting & quaint small Seafood café, extending out into the Cape Fear River, ships passing by & with great menu of seafood!!! Definitely “5 Star” menu with “10 Star” Atmosphere!!! Sit out on a far riverside table on the deck that extending literally out into the Cape Fear River, to absorb the full vivid atmosphere of being surrounded by a 18th century southern river port city! Definitely orders cup of the ‘She Crab🦀 soup’ prior your entry! I brought my clients to lunch & dinner here to wow them & close the deal! The lights @ nite on the river are spellbinding! I can’t wait to visit- The ‘Pilot House’ on my next visit to the Coast from my home now inland in Winston-Salem !!!

Absolutely fabulous experience! It was a beautiful day so we sat on the deck overlooking the Cape Fear River. The host was kind enough to bring an umbrella to shield our eyes. The Captains Platter and the open faced Crab cakes were amazing! And our server was just fantastic! Attentive and pleasant. Definitely recommend

We had an amazing dinner with friends. Love the location, the atmosphere the food and the service. All surpassed our expectations. The chef knows what they are doing and they are exceptional! The food here was actually good, no complaints about that at all. But the experience was totally ruined by a kid at the next table blasting YouTube videos on her iPad the entire time. What’s worse is that staff didn’t say a word. I don’t understand why restaurants allow this now. It completely destroys the atmosphere for everyone.
Great food, but I won’t be back until management starts enforcing a little basic dining etiquette.

I reluctantly give the Pilot House two stars. Not for the fresh fish I ate last night, but the weird menu. What happened? This place was known for the great lamb chops, mashed potatoes and fresh seafood. Whoever changed this whole menu needs a reality check! Read the room! Elijah’s, the restaurant next door is packed, your place? Pick a table! Must be a new chef! Please bring back the simple, good North Carolina waterfront food you were once known for and pack the place with your regulars again. News flash: pretentiousness does not make a good dining experience! Please go back to the basics, so we can fall in love again!

Very nice hostess and our waitress was wonderful. The food was absolutely delicious. I had fried flounder and fried shrimp w/fries and coleslaw. Everything tasted so fresh and the seasoning was phenomenal. I would definitely be visiting again.
