I went last night. I got there around 10. First our server was AMAZING! She was very on point. We tipped her $30 but when I got home I just felt like she deserved more. That’s how GREAT she was. The atmosphere was great until about 12:30am……It started getting PACKED & a little wild so we ordered our food and left. The music before 12:30am was a great vibe. We enjoyed the food when we got home. The pork chops are amazing but as someone that owns a catering company I realized that the portions were a little small. The chicken was great as well. I will DEFINITELY be making this me & my husband new GO TO spot!

AS AN OUTER TOWN PERSON I was a bit put out
When I arrived by Uber with 4 people intow to be told we are not open. There online information stated they were. At the time of my arrival there was another person who was having the same experience.
Before we left to go Sonya's the phone answering machine was full and no one picked up the phone to answer. Needless to say very disappointed.
No service no compensation

I attended an event on Aug. 4th with my friend who found this event on Eventbrite for Black Theatre Week. We purchased VIP tickets and were excited to go.

Reasons for my 1 star review
1.
The tickets stated the event starts at 11 AM. We enter the venue at 11:11 and was told that the event starts at noon. We come back at 12:05, shown to our seats. The tables in the VIP sections were dirty. I asked if the table could be wiped down but the lady who helped us forgot. The tickets stated that there will be a mimosa wall where we could get endless mimosas while supplies last. We received one mimosa and were told that they had to purchase more Prosecco.

The pianist was not completely set up until around 1 but did not start playing yet. By 1:30, my friend and I had to leave because we had other engagements to attend.

There was a pair of siblings who sat next to us and stated that they have been to the venue before and love to support black businesses. Even though the event started late and seemed as though there was not a well thought out plan for preparation, the siblings stated they will still support the business. However, they were later approached by the owner and told they were spreading negativity when they simply wanted to provide constructive feedback. It seemed as though the owner did not want to listen to anything they had to say. The siblings did not yell, nor were condescending. They did not start a scene. They were very respectful.

Needless to say, I was very disappointed and will not be returning. Especially after my friend stated she puked after consuming the food. If you have an event, please start on time. If you know you are going to start late, please let people know as soon as possible. Most of us plan out our days. It was disrespectful to our time. This event was money wasted. The only good I can say is the lady who showed us to our seats was very polite.

We attended a Vip event today August 4th, 2024. We arrived at the restaurant at 11:40 am for the event that was supposed to begin at 11. Doors were closed and setup was not complete. We left and came back around 12:30 pm. We were approached when we came back and had too ask to be seated and seated without menus. I was verbally attacked because I complained about the event being set up late and I was not treated with vip like I have been at previous vip events. I was very disrespected by Sonya and Joi and was told I was spreading negativity because I asked questions. I was told I could receive a refund and I am unable to receive a refund for the next event that I prepurchased for. I am very good about supporting uprising black businesses and I'm very disappointed and will not be attending anymore events with this business.

I had the Sonya sauce wings and fries ; our waitress V was exceptional. We also got to meet Sonya the owner of the restaurant and her personality was so down to earth & sweet. The atmosphere was amazing and very relaxed . I am well pleased with my first visit there and I will definitely be back.

Atmosphere was a three star only because it was a slow night for our first time out in ages. The food was on point ended up meeting some friends Daryl sharma Sonjia Patricia and me Rafa.

First time pulling up to this place had the pleasure of meeting Miss Sonya at the door and let me say she is such a sweet heart and southern bell, and the food that I had gotten was really good. I had the wings with the Sonya sauce , Mac, yams and fried okra, not to mention I like the setting of the club was really neat and clean and good music was being played. Much love Miss Sonya from Paz.
