Salad with the apple butter vinegrette dressing. And fresh bread along with the club sandwhich. Wonderful ambience and great food presentation for the historic period. If ypu can't get to colonial Williamsburg this will do nicely.

The Tavern was a really neat experience. The wait was a little long, but the food was absolutely well worth it. To start, the atmosphere of the restaurant was very authentic and fun. It was lit with candlelight, there were fiddlers moving about the different dining rooms, and the tables and dining settings appear as if to be from that era. When the food arrived, I was very impressed. The rolls and pumpkin bread on hand was moist and warm, just as you would want bread to be. My soup, the cheddar and bratwurst, was nicely done. The main course, wild boar, was excellent. I can’t say enough good things about it. The red wine reduction was phenomenal, and the boar was tender. I hardly needed my knife. I highly recommend getting the wild boar if you can! The waitress was extremely fun and kind the whole time too. While the food is on the pricier side, it’s a worthwhile treat. You must stop by this place sometime!

Good food (it's my husbands favorite) but the service is very slow and it is a TERRIBLE place for families. Anytime we have been without our children vs with them, we have noticed we are treated much differently. Today we went as a last time before they close for my husbands birthday. I had called to make reservations but they said they weren't taking anymore and recommended we get there before opening so we could get in. We were the second people there and arrived more than 30 minutes before they opened. They came out to take names and deliberately skipped over my family with our two small children despite that we had been there before the long line of the people and were standing right in front of them. I brought it to the attention of the staff because I thought they just hadn't seen us (not sure how you miss a family of 4) and they directed me to the manager who told me he wasn't going to "ruin his day by talking to me." We were the only people there with children which is why I suspect we were deliberately skipped over. Doesn't surprise me they are closing seeing as Old Salem is a family friendly place and this is how they treat families. We waited almost an hour with 2 kids for a special occasion and ended up just having to leave despite everyone else being seated who arrived after us and also didn't have reservations. Would definitely not recommend. Was sorry to see them close, but now I understand why.

I have nothing new to add to the others reviews, as I feel we had the exact same experience. I loved the Tavern as a child, and decided to take my family there over Thanksgiving week. I was so taken aback by the rudeness of the hostess, I had to walk out and turn it over to my sister. The hostess kept saying over and over, why would you come here without a reservation. I said “saying” rather than “asking”, because she was not waiting for a reply. Just kept shaking her head. A woman came up while I was there, and asked when her table would be ready. Party of two and had been waiting over an hour. We were so frustrated and appalled by the rudeness, that we left Old Salem all together. It was our first stop, and we had planned to spend the whole afternoon in Old Salem. We will never go back.

I was having a very poor experience from the 2 hr wait and then a couple run ins but the manager Rick Took care of all our needs. We finally got seated and we enjoyed our first experience at the best restaurant in Winston Salem. The food is amazing. Thank you Rick for correcting my visit the day after Thanksgiving. You guys rock.

Well, here is the issue...the food may be ok, but we may never find out as we can't get seated. We had a reservation for 5:40 and we just sat forever watching the host try to decide if he could seat us early...tables open all around...early in the dinner service so no server was even remotely in the weeds. I fear we may not return because of this. Also, I called six times between 4:00 and 5:00 (when the restaurant opened) and no one would answer the phone!!! Occasionally I would get a message that began with "Happy Thanksgiving!"...that was three days ago...

I have been here for both Dinner and Sunday Brunch. Both times were wonderful experiences! I would recommend getting a reservation ahead of time just in case!

I went to this place with my family and we totally loved it. The service was great and the food as well. Very nice place to go with friends, family or even a date. The tavern not only has great food but also great environment.

Service was really not good, we asked if we could move our table of 3 to one at the window and was told that the table was held for a group of 5 and then a couple sit there . The waitress could not remember the orders and it took quite a while to get the beer order. My daughters chicken pie was very dry, however my sandwich was really good and the beets were great. Desert Appel strudel was good

I have been to this spot twice and have had a great experience each time! Once for Dinner and once for Sunday Brunch! I would recommend getting a reservation ahead of time just in case they are busy.

A romantic evening in a romantic and historic location. My Rack of Lamb was exquisite and never better. My wife's Roasted Chicken was such a hit that she demanded to return a week later and now we visit at least twice a year. The after-dinner carriage ride around Old Salem was the perfect way to top off the perfect evening. A must!
