I was the fence giving this place such a low rating but I can't give more stars. Came in and got a to go order. Menus had different prices. Tables were dirty. The guy taking my order , bless his heart, didn't understand me half the time and he was real quiet. Food was pretty bad. Chicken torta had some old old chicken on it. All the meat had a bad taste. Tasty quick food. Got the steak and a bean and cheese papusa. Reminds of the bifstek we ate in Costa Rica years ago. A great chance to practice your Spanish. Friendly service and we'll be back to try more dishes. One caution, the staff advised against drinking the tap water. So we chose bottled soda pop. There's a good selection of Jarritos. Clean and cheerful ambience.

El Chalateco has been renamed to El Cafetal now. I reside in Bellevue, NE and have been eating here once a week on average. I've tried a lot of other local Salvadorian restaurants and I like this one the best. Not a fancy place, but clean and the food is excellent. I highly recommend eating here.
