“What a gem in Norfolk!! We stopped here after running errands in town & I couldn’t be happier I discovered it!
First off, the location is adorable. For a small mom & pop place they have plenty of indoor seating plus a covered patio that I cannot wait to return to in warmer months. Inside is well lit & decorated with fun barbecue decor that instantly sets the mood. So cute!
As someone whose neighbors probably wonder if I ever cook inside… I’m picky about barbecue. I usually judge a new place by two things: brisket & pulled pork. I ordered ½ lb of each & somehow both savored it AND inhaled it. Seriously… where did it go? That’s a full pound of meat (not uncommon for me as I really only eat meat).
The meat is not pre-sauced - thank God. There are however 3 sauces at the table (I tried original & hot). I’m normally not a sauce person but they were excellent - sticky, flavorful & not ketchup-like. You don’t need much.
Now onto what really matters -
Pulled Pork: Perfect texture. Fall-apart tender without becoming mush. Actual shredded pork — not dry strands & not paste. Little bits of bark (my favorite part) with clean smoke flavor, great seasoning, not fatty & not dry. Absolutely nailed it.
Brisket: This is where most places fail… and they absolutely passed the test. So Tender but structured, not chewy, not pot-roast soft, not oversalted, trimmed correctly pre smoke so the fat rendered perfectly. First bite was honestly bliss. Perfect seasoning that lets the meat & smoke shine. True barbecue craftsmanship. I’ve had brisket I’d repeat (outside of my own) exactly 4 times now.
Kid review (the real honesty test): Pulled pork sandwich + mac & cheese = demolished with no words between. Chocolate cake = instant wide eyes upon first bite. Apple crisp to take home later = still raving. Welcomed return when in town = agreed.
I was already planning my return while leaving the parking lot!
10/10 — will absolutely be back whenever we’re in Norfolk.“
