My partner and I went to The Tavern in Claremont last night, and we were so impressed. I’ve been there before it reopened, and the food was amazing back then, but it’s just as incredible now. Everything we ordered was delicious and cooked perfectly.
The atmosphere felt cozy and welcoming, and the staff were so kind and attentive. It was the perfect spot for dinner before heading to a Halloween party right across the street.
I’m so glad The Tavern is open again. It’s one of those local places that makes you feel right at home, and it’s clear they’ve kept the same great quality and warmth that people loved before. We’ll definitely be going back soon.

Excellent cottage pie, and the maple bacon Brussels sprouts were also delicious.

Not impressed, tried this place again after the changes and new chef… first off, it shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to be seated when the restaurant isn’t even full. Then, over an hour to wait for charred steak tips… INEDIBLE! Save your money and spend it somewhere that won’t frustrate you…
I really want to give it another chance… but I think this place is out of chances… plenty of other places to spend your money in Claremont. So disappointed.

Review of Taverne on the Square, Claremont
We had high hopes celebrating a birthday dinner at Taverne on the Square, but it turned into one of the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve had in a long time.
Despite having a reservation, our evening quickly unraveled. After waiting 45 minutes from the time we placed our order, our server came back to tell us that the restaurant had run out of steak tips—one of the meals we had chosen for the celebration. Another 15 minutes went by, making it a full hour, and still no food had arrived.
When we asked about the delay, our server explained that the staff was new. While we understand training takes time, it doesn’t excuse such poor execution—especially on a busy night when customers expect a basic level of service. To make matters worse, we overheard several nearby tables also complaining about similar delays.
After wasting over an hour with no meals in sight, we decided enough was enough. We left $30 in cash to cover our drinks and walked out, vowing never to return. A birthday dinner should feel special; instead, this one felt like a complete disaster.
Claremont has other restaurants that value their customers’ time and business—sadly, this is not one of them.
Food used to be mediocre here, which is why we stopped wasting our money. But, with the new menu, we decided to give it another try...horrible! We won't be returning. Tavern tips burnt, but...the romaine lettuce was good. My boyfriend's haddock tasted like a piece of fish from a frozen bag, fries weren't good. We also had buffalo wings to start, not very buffalo like, but consumed. The waitress brought me more tips, they were better, but still slightly burnt. The bill was 81.00...extremely overpriced for such heinous food.
On the up side, the waitress was lovely and her service was great. We need to find her a better restaurant to work at. We also love the location and the atmosphere. They just need a better chef, or cooks or something to make that place returnable.

The service was great, however, the food was atrocious. The Ahi Tuna was cooked too long and unfit to eat. The haddock sandwich was something from the grocery store frozen section. The wings were tasteless. The Tavern Ateak Tips were burnt and tasted like it had been left in wood ash and served.
I would not recommend this place and we will not be going back again plus is extremely pricey for horrible food.

Disappointed, this place really used to be one of the best places to go. But the food is going downhill and the owners are making a revolving door out of their employees. Half of the town went in to see the faces and not eat the food anyway. Such a shame to watch the owners run this place into the ground. Will not be coming back. Hopeful that someday this prime location will have owners that don’t lack poise and grace. Great spot not a great restaurant.

I’ve been a loyal customer for two years - every Wednesday. But tonight was horrible. The owner (I think, I’ve never met her), berated a staff member calling her a b#%^! and telling her she didn’t deserve her job IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE RESTAURANT. WHO does that?? I happen to know this staff member had been there over six years which is monumental in the restaurant industry. She was a phenomenal server. She deserved a private conversation. Whatever your differences, you don’t cuss someone out in front of the whole house! Shame on the owner for allowing this. I will never set foot in this place again. That was horrific. At the very least you (owner person who screamed) could have offered an apology to us but instead you disappeared into the back. We appreciate our service people here in the UV. There’s no excuse for this behavior.

I struggled to give this place one star. An hour to get an order of macaroni and cheese, nobody in the place and everybody else getting their meals around us. No explanation, except for they were short staffed. Not sure how that explains people that came in after us.Getting their meals before us.

I'm going to rate this place 5 stars. Most of the time the food is great and the atmosphere is good. We have had less than stellar experiences. But what restaurant is perfect
