I've never had a poke bowl before so excuse me if I expected the meat AT LEAST to be warm but no it was ice cold. I ordered through doordash because I had a halfoff and ordered for pickup once my app accepted the payment I got a notification of 15 minutes till it was ready. I was 20 minutes away so I was expecting it to be ready but no when I arrived I had to wait another 5 to 10 minutes. The food is mediocre will try again but won't be going on my list of favorites

Food and service are fantastic. HOWEVER, the prices keep going up and the quantity goes down. Consistency is poor. $20 for a bowl of rice and 2 SMALL amounts of protein is ridiculous. Been going for years and would eat there a couple times a week, but it is not affordable @ $20 a pop. Sad.

As a Native Hawaiian living on the mainland for 7 years, I was so excited when Ohana Kitchen first opened in Portsmouth. Iâve been trying their poke bowls and other items over the years, hoping for improvement, but unfortunately, they continue to disappoint. The bowls have become more and more expensiveânow around $23-$24 for a single bowlâbut they lack the traditional mana of a Hawaiian poke bowl. We spend an average of $60 per visit here for 2 people.
Itâs especially confusing because the owners mention they were former residents of Maui, so they should know what authentic poke bowls are like. If theyâve spent any time on the island, theyâd know the local spots like Foodland and Tamuraâs, where poke bowls are simple, fresh, and filled with fishânot overwhelmed with unnecessary extras. I donât understand why Ohana Kitchenâs menu and DIY bowls push for so much fluff, and why itâs difficult to get a proper amount of fish without paying extra. Even when you do, the portion is still lacking. As someone from HawaiÊ»i, itâs disheartening to see this âÄina being represented in such a way.
They force you to customize your bowl if you want a tradition bowl, but the amount of fish provided is barely enough for a true poke experience. I often have to order 3-4 times the protein just to get a decent amount of fish; otherwise, the bowl is filled with rice and unnecessary extras. I understand fish is expensive on the mainland, but if youâre charging this much, the fish should be the star, not an afterthought.
In HawaiÊ»i, we get massive poke bowls for $10-$14 max, despite the higher cost of living and wages, and itâs frustrating to pay more for less here. It feels like pulling teeth to get enough fish, even when paying for extras.
While I appreciate that they attempt to include Hawaiian staples like musubi, it doesnât have the pono it needs. In my Ê»ohana, we make our own poke bowls, katsu, and musubi with more aloha and authenticity. If we can do it at home, whatâs missing here? Itâs not surprising since the owners arenât Hawaiian, and they seem to have started this business simply after visiting HawaiÊ»i. I would love to see them consult with actual Native Hawaiians on their recipes because, while I understand they are catering to mainland clientele, it feels like theyâre using Hawaiian culture for profit.
Every time my husband and I eat here, we always joke that we could open our own spot and easily outshine every so-called âHawaiianâ restaurant around here. Lucky for you, weâll be moving back home to Maui soon! None of these haole-owned places are doing the food the justice it deserves. If youâre going to embrace and profit off someone elseâs culture, then show it the kuleana and respect it truly deserves!

The best poke bowls around! And I have been to Hawaii. Great vegan options as well, and they have tofu for protein. We eat at the Exeter or Portsmouth location at least once a week. Try their Ohana 30 sauce- game changer! Delish!

A solid option for a good, quick bite. Will definitely return and customize my order next time. Likely more popular for to-go orders. Half the seats at every table have you looking out the window at the reflection of the sun off the cars at lunchtime.

I have ordered the veggie bowl online many times, which cost about $10 and is just rice, sauce, and toppings of choice- no protein. I am pregnant and canât eat the protein at the moment so the veggie bowl has been great for me! Ordered in person for the first time today and I donât think the cashier knew that a veggie bowl existed as an option. Charged me for a BYO bowl which you get two proteins with, since I didnât get any protein it was a huge waste of money. ended up being close to $20 and thereâs hardly anything in the bowl. Also why do they give you the teeniest tiniest bit of sauce known to man? this is just white rice with some scallions on it at this point. Extremely disappointing.
