If they were honest, they would start by removing all the old reviews from when the restaurant was great.
Unfortunately, they have turned it into a way overpriced, pretentious restaurant with less than stellar cocktails that cost more than drinks at the Avery bar in the Ritz Carlton Boston.
Not to mention, they automatically add a 22% gratuity to your bill, but don't even tell you.
For appetizers, nothing really piqued the interest of anyone at the table, so we tried the Duck Rillette which was relatively bland, although the mustard that came with it was good.
For my main dish I had the ox tail which was also good but the potato puree was so loose that it would just ooze through the fork and with no spoon in sight it was not possible to get any to stay on each bite of ox tail.
I have eaten at some of the best restaurants around the world and this is the only one that I felt uncomfortable in soon after entering.
What should be a warm, inviting New England inn is just trying too hard to be a high end restaurant which it is not.
Hopefully, if you can't stand poor craftsmanship, you don't look up while dining to see lattice work going in 2 different directions covering cow hide on the ceiling which should have been routed into the trim but instead has an 1/8" gap among many other details that drove me crazy.
Although I would suggest saving your money and not going, if you do you should make sure you don't get the table where your back is against a massive picture frame which looked extremely uncomfortable for the poor couple sitting there.
I would have given it one star, but at least the mustard was good :)
We had a $22 Negroni there last night. A $12 Le Vielle Femme glass of wine that costs $9.99 at the store. We understand marking up alcohol because we live in Boston, but that’s outrageous. Shocking was the fact they would service such cheap wine at such classy place. Would have been nice to have bar nuts or chips or anything to munch on. Renovations came out great but completely overpriced and not sustainable for this area and demographics. It is exciting to have such fine dining in our area but the manager should reconsider dining and drink costs. Fixing the service tip at 22% is also rude. Patrons should determine the quality of the service by adding their own tip amount. We’ve stayed at the Bedford Post Inn, which this is not and the rooms aren’t even renovated yet and rumor has it will be priced starting at $800 a night.

We went for the soft opening luncheon and it was terrific! Michael and his staff did an outstanding job hosting and serving our party of 15. The renovation is beautiful, the food was delicious and we would highly recommend this scenic Inn to all who happen by there.

Once a lovely old inn in a small NH town. Locals used to mingle with guests in the charming bar.. Now being renovated by investors into something real NH people won't recognize and can't afford.
Great

Stayed at the Hancock Inn briefly during our ski trip to Crotched Mountain - it was a great experience and I highly recommend staying here! It was very close to the mountain, about 15 minutes away. Within the inn & the surrounding area, you really felt that old New England town feel - very quaint and cozy. Without sacrificing any of the modern amenities, either - we had all we needed with a nice hot shower, TV, coffee machines, etc. What puts it over the top is their complimentary menu breakfast and great hospitality, per our host Rhonda. Great find!

New England charm all the way. Fox tavern atmosphere and great food. Staff are exceptionally professional and friendly
Fabulous Inn. The rooms are clean and have a sense of nostalgia in how they're decorated. The food is creative and delicious.
There are too many good things about this very special place to list. But here are just a few: the owners, the vibe, the high standards for literally everything, the in room fireplaces, the personal attention, the cuisine including the best ever breakfasts (that are included), the always above and beyond (e.g. they took all the snow off our car in the parking lot early in the morning after a storm, the owners made a delicious three course dinner for guests who couldn’t get to a restaurant due to the same storm), the historical elements and decor, and much much more. We absolutely loved staying here.

Great overnight for Valentines weekend! Called last minute on Friday for a Saturday night stay to have champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in the room and it was done. The inn itself is very nice with multiple levels with couches and chairs and Keurig coffee makers. The room we stayed in was the John Freeman Eaton room and was perfect. Some of the doors were open on the other rooms as well and they all looked really nice. The Fox tavern is a cozy little place with a small bar and 5 stools as well as a more quiet dining room. Three course dinner was excellent as well as the cocktails and wine list. Marcia the innkeeper was wonderful and hospitable. HIGHLY recommend!!
