The Gables Historic Inn & Restaurant

My wife and I went to dinner here. Pre-fixe menu was $145 per person. With this we received three courses. Prior to ordering we received a warm loaf of bread in a bag and one oyster each. For the appetizers, my wife ordered carrots in a bowl with a sauce and seasonings. I ordered Thai coconut soup. For our main course we both got the bone in filet medium rare. Both steaks were medium well on the outside and medium rare closer to the bone. The bone in filet entree will cost you an additional $45 per person on top of the $145 pre fixe price. With this meal we ordered the only option for alcohol that Gables offers which are red and whites from an NJ winery. The red will cost about $40-$50 per bottle. You can order a half bottle but not a glass. For dessert my wife ordered the banana cheesecake and I ordered the panna cotta. The service was good, the food was fine. I will keep all remaining opinions to myself and if the owner would like to keep it that way I recommend that they don’t reply to my review.

Did not stay here, just ate. Average food that is overpriced. You're paying for the atmosphere and the service which are great. But if you're looking for gourmet food, you'll be disappointed.

We had an amazing experience at The Gables Inn! Our son and future daughter-in-law were engaged across the street and we had dinner there afterwards. The attention to detail, the friendliness of the staff and sounds of the piano music, made our evening even more memorable. The food was absolutely incredible! Erin our waitress did a wonderful job accommodating all of us! Can’t wait to go back!

Not answering the phone is an automatic 1 star

A party of four dined here tonight and my review is an honest review of our experience...at first blush, the property is absolutely gorgeous and the owner Sandra was absolutely lovely. The ambiance is gorgeous, romantic, and you will feel as if you are in France. However, the tables were very tight, and the dining room felt cramped. As appetizers, three of us ordered crab cakes and one of us got French onion soup. The soup was outstanding, the crab cakes were average. For our entrees we got duck, sausage bolognase, salmon, and chicken. Every main dish was mediocre, but for the duck, which my husband said was outstanding. We each got a different dessert. They were all just ok. Service was not great. Our server was not knowledgeable about the menu when we asked questions, and communication was difficult. When we were presented with $709 bill, which included our wine and an upcharge for water, we felt taken advantage of.

We both loved this place! It's a terrific place for a special occassion as it's pricey but worth it. We look forward to going back.

From entering the front door, greated by wonderful staff, the waitress with great recommendations and the food quality out of this world. Love this place.

We retreated by the wait staff as though we're the only patrons in the restaurant. The delivery of the food was prompt the food was amazing and the wine choices were excellent too. We were not rushed and it was as comfortable and as beautiful as you could hope for.

Amazing dining experience, top notch food. Excellent hospitality. Highly recommend for a romantic evening out.

We have eaten here over the course of many years and have always been well treated and exceptionally well fed with delicious food meticulously prepared and presented. When you're looking for a place for a special dinner, look no further.

A quality chef who rivals any New York fine dining, the curated interior, and personalized attention with experienced service, creates an experience that we find no where else in Philadelphia or New York. We had a bone-in filet mignon which is the best we've ever had, and we are very picky and cook specialized cuts at home frequently (we rarely prefer steaks out). The appetizers were similarly outstanding. Due to liquor laws, it is mainly byob (or their single label offered), which we love because we love to bring our own wine. There is a wine/beer/liquor store two blocks away (Rommels) that has a very good selection of all. Open until January 1st then reopens at Easter. Don't miss an opportunity.

We have been to the Gables many times over the last several years. We much prefer the original format where you paid à la carte for everything. Both my wife and I are not big eaters so a three course dinner is a lot of food for the two of us. We are used to sharing an appetizer and sharing dessert.  Then on top of it they charge $9 for a cappuccino.. to us it seemed very excessive. We are true foodies and never take issue for paying for a super meal. This was good but lacked the extra special feel. . With that being said,  we continue to walk away with mixed feelings. This was our last visit to the Gables for a while. We find the price of $140 per person for a three course dinner to be excessive. My wife had the scallop entrée which was a $15 up charge on top of the $140.00 price fix menu. and the scallop entrée had four scallops over asparagus risotto. The entree itself was bland and had no flavor. She had to add more salt and pepper to bring out more flavor in a rather disappointing dish. The additional charge seemed to be ridiculous and unnecessary. I had the pork chop, and although it was very good, it was basically just a pork chop with sweet potatoes and spinach. Way too many sweet potatoes on the plate. My wife had an autumn salad as an appetizer which was enough to feed at least two people. Although they might think that the portion size is good, it really is a waste of money because she ended up eating only half of it so that she could finish the rest of her dinner.  The service was spotty at best. The restaurant was far from crowded, and our waitress would disappear for long lengths of time. Never really checking in or filling up water glasses. With many other restaurants in the area to pick from that fall into a lower price range with highly acceptable food, we think we're going to take a break from the Gables for a long time.
