Hidden gem of Cape May. Best food you will find.

Our favorite spot in Cape May. Great food and the best crab cakes ever. Prices have crept up over the years and are close to pushing us out but the BYOB helps.

We are locals who keep returning for Chef’s Steve’s delicious food and Flossie’s great service and conversation. The chicken parm with shrimp and crab with a side of linguine was soooo good!!!

A must !!! I had heard good things so decided to try. Arrived Jan 5 before the big snow on Jan 6.
Cafe is cozy with a great ambiance. The server , Flossie was wonderful and attentive. The crab cakes were the best ever as were their mashed potatoes , salad w/ homemade dressing and dinner roll. . Beautifully plated w/ edible orchid. Have not had anything that good in decades. My compliments to the chefs. 🩷

We happened upon Freda’s by chance after just arriving in Cape May and we had an amazing experience! We each enjoyed different soup specials and split the crab cake entree. The food was incredible and the ambience of sitting on the patio was delightful! A special thanks to our server Eddie who made us feel welcomed!

At $50 entrees,$20 appetizers (and kids' meals!), there are expectations. The food was very very good, though the halibut was overcooked. Loved the seafood bisque. The staff was kind and friendly, but was dreadfully slow and inattentive. Server came by only to give us next course which were each a half hour in between. When the kids are done with their meals before we've gotten salad, there's a problem. If you're going to price like a Michelin star restaurant the service needs to be better. I'd say the wait staff was on par with an Applebee's.

My wife and I were looking for something outside of the typical bar and grille during our vacation last week. We came across this location thinking a distinctive cafe (sandwiches, soups, smoothies). The identity of the restaurant was opposite to a cafe (first red flag). We were asked if we had a reservation and if we BYOB. When we were sat down, we were stunned by the menu prices...nearly $15 for a regular bowl of soup (which I will say was good as were the $20 bite size spring rolls (2 full size spring rolls cut in half)). The server was insulted that we only spent $50 on those 3 things and not get entrees. On top of that, each of us were only given 1 bread roll and 1 pat of butter....1 for the entire experience. And they only filled our water one time each. When it came to pay the bill, our server didn't even come to collect our payment, instead what we believe was a manager did that. Don't even know if the server got tipped. We truly appreciate restaurants that dedicate themselves to making quality food from scratch, but don't appreciate when you misidentify yourself to lure in customers and give preferential treatment to only certain customers, particularly tourists which appeared to make a difference compared to locals, only to shock them with prices and quality of service.
