I was there last Saturday and it is my favorite restaurant in Cape May! By far the best steaks in the area! The Tuna Tartare appetizer was excellent as well as everything we had. Great atmosphere and our waiter Trey was very attentive and friendly. Will be back soon!

PRIMAL in Cape May offers an exceptional dining experience! . As a first-time visitor during the off-season, I was truly impressed by both the outstanding service and the remarkable food. Chef Mia and her team deliver on quality, quantity, and value.
The meal started with complimentary fresh-made bread, followed by a delightful house salad. The main courses—filet, halibut, and a lobster/scallop appetizer in the shallot cream sauce—were all flavorful and cooked to perfection. And the Truffle Yukon mashed potatoes? Simply the best I’ve ever had. Dessert was a tower of homemade cookies surrounded by fresh fruit and decadent vanilla icing.
PRIMAL is a standout gem in Cape May, offering an unforgettable dining experience that combines exceptional service, expertly crafted dishes, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're a local or visiting during the off-season, this restaurant is a must-try. Chef Mia and her team have truly set the bar high—an experience worth savoring from start to finish!

Great service, great food. Steaks cooked to order, side and appetizer awesome. Desert included. Made a reservation and was seated right on time. No wait. Spent about $200 (2 persons)with tip. Money well spent.
Parking: Cape May is a year round town. Weekend street parking may be a challenge.

Don't know why we haven’t been here sooner. Service and food both excellent. I had the burrito to start, followed by the filet mignon cooked perfectly medium rare. My wife had the surf and turf and was very pleased with both. We shared the mushrooms which I would recommend to those who enjoy mushrooms. There are complimentary sauces to go with the main course, but really not needed for a high quality cut cooked to perfection. Looking forward to our next meal here.

The steakhouse has been the place I’ve celebrated every big event of my life, starting with high school graduation. For over 30 years I’ve entertained clients as a sales and marketing executive at some of the best steakhouses in the country. So of course it was a steakhouse we celebrated my wife’s 29th birthday. Primal by Mia is a welcome departure from all those traditional steak restaurants. The view on the beach is outstanding. Service attentive. Cool vibes inside with flower walls, wait staff outfitted in hip but serious steak serving overalls. There’s no salad (house with light vinaigrette) or dessert (carrot cake) on the menu as these courses were included. So too is the delicious bread basket baked I read by owner chef Mia herself. The wood fire char flavor on our filet minions was spectacular. The lobster tails were perfect and the perfect size. The mashed potatoes were rich and delightful. Wonderful place to celebrate. One of South Jersey’s finest restaurants. And it’s a BYOB. We Loved Mia’s take on a restaurant that specializes in steak.

We had been looking forward to having dinner at Primal for some time now. We loved the set up of the restaurant and the BYOB bar. It really gives that classy, yet laid back kind of feeling.
Everyone that approached our table was professional and knowledgeable. We started with the shrimp, lobster, and scallop appetizer and it did not disappoint. It was beautifully served and the taste was light and elegant. The bread and salad have their own specials dipping sauces and dressing which were both very good as well!
We debated our main course for a bit, but when you see steaks like that, we just had to go for it! I had the surf and turf and my husband had the ribeye steak. When the food arrived, I was surprised at the size of my filet. I expected it to be a little bigger. I cut into it and it was perfectly cooked medium rare and was so very tender. The problem was when I tasted it. It was extremely salty. I know that a good steak is seasoned with salt and I have no issue with that, but this was excessive. I was only able to eat about half after scraping the seasonings off of it. My husband's steak was the same. He agreed that it was cooked to his liking and very tender, again just extremely salty. He also ate only half of his. The lobster tail was nicely cooked.
I don't normally do reviews, but this was a little disheartening. I'm not writing this to discourage anyone from visiting this fine establishment as I would still highly recommend based on everything else. However, if you are on a low sodium diet, you might want to mention it to your server. We will go back in the future I'm sure. I hope this is helpful!

Had a lovely dinner at Primal. We had the lamb and the halibut. The shallot cream sauce with the halibut was wonderful. The lamb was beautifully cooked and had a wonderful crust. The halibut was cooked perfectly. The bread, complimentary salad and dessert were all fantastic. Wish we had a table ocean side but regardless it was a wonderful meal. Oh and the Yukon truffle...so yummy.

Wonderful evening wonderful dinner.
I have been to Primal many times and it’s just wonderful. I want to just say that the few negative reviews are just weird and I can say never have I been disappointed. Diana and I decided on the 32 oz Tomahawk rib eye with 2 lobster tail. The photo does not do it justice. On the side we had the Yukon truffle whipped potatoes and the long hot.
The steak came out with a perfect char from the wood grill at the perfect medium rare. The potatoes were decadent and the long hot just right. The simple dessert of Lucious chocolate cake with whipped cream and chocolate shavings was just perfect with the cappuccino. It BYO so a bottle of The Prisoner cab we brought with us was perfect.
Someone complained in a previous review about the simple dessert but I think simplicity and letting food speak for it self is sign of a great chef.
And yes it’s pricey but not out of control at all.
