We took a drive to Elizabeth, NJ, to try Tommy’s Italian Sausage and Hotdogs. According to their sign, they were voted the best in 2018, so we had to see what the hype was about. It turned out to be a unique twist on a classic favorite.

I ordered a hotdog and a sausage, both served with sliced potatoes in pita bread—definitely not something I’d had before. The combination was delicious and very different from the usual fare. At first glance, I wondered how in the world I was supposed to eat something that size, and sure enough, I couldn’t finish it!

If you plan on visiting, don’t expect indoor seating—this is a walk-up window spot where you order and get your food quickly. We ate in our car, but on a nice spring day, you could grab a bench across the street. Since we live too far away to take it home, eating on the spot was our best option.

Would I go again? Yes, the drive wasn’t bad, and the food was worth it. The only downside was the parking—it was a bit of a nightmare, though that may have been due to the time of day (evening, when everyone was home from work).

Overall, a fun and tasty experience!

Does anyone know their actual hours? I sit in front right now at 2:30pm and they are closed. It seems everyone I visit over the last few wills they are closed. Their sign with hours is inaccurate.

Coming out of work I went here and ordered 3 dogs and fries how ever I wasn’t very fond of a hotdog with only ketchup being 4 bucks and small fries being 5 but what ever I was hungry and tired I go back to my car to start getting my grub on the dogs were good but I go to eat my fries not only where they just tossed in a cup they had no flavor like plain potato flavor and the best part of all is they were never cut into fry form so I basically paid for saggy potato slices

MAN THIS CHEESESTEAK WAS MORE THAN GREAT , SWEET ONIONS - NICE PEPERS. NOT STINGY WITH MEAT AND PORTIONS THE SANDWICH IS BIG

THE BEST PART IS THE FREE DELICIOUSLY MADE POTATOES THAT COME WRAPPED INSIDE!! WHAT A SURPRISE, especially since I was contemplating getting their “fries in a cup” like my sister. THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE TO GET A CHEESESTEAK OR EVEN SOME FRENCH FRIES☝🏾❤️

I'm an hour away and it is worth the drive! This cash only, hole-in-the-wall will fill your belly. The double Italian hot dog for lunch will keep you full well past dinner. And their potatoes....I would hurt someone for these....They are AMAZING.

This was my first time eating at this legendary Elizabeth Italian hot dog joint which is located on the ground floor of a corner house. There is a small window you order through and receive your order. It is a cash only place there and they reference an ATM. Parking is hit or miss. There are meters on 2nd Avenue but free parking around the corner on South Street. Our order included a single Italian hot dog ($10.50) and a double Italian hot dog ($13.00). What I Liked: -\tThe thin sliced potatoes were not dripping with grease and had great flavor -\tThe pizza bread was fresh -\tFor an additional $2.50, you can get a double Italian hot dog rather than a single Italian hot dog, which is a great deal. An even better deal is a triple Italian hot dog for$14. What I Did Not Like -\tThere were less onions and peppers than I would have expected -\tThe potatoes could have been crisper -\tThe price point of $13.00 for a double Italian hot dog is pricy, however, $10.50 for a single Italian hot dog is very expensive -\tIt is take-out only. I always prefer sitting at a table while eating an Italian hot dog which allows you to add additional ketchup or mustard as needed. -\tIt’s cash only My overall restaurant rating is 7.6/10 and my Hot Diggity Dog rating is 8.2/10 Barks. The best practice for value would be to get a double dog and cut it into two singles netting a price point of $6.50 a sandwich. Note that a plain hot dog is $4.00. Did you know that a block away on 2nd Avenue there is Centanni’s Meat Market where The Soprano’s pilot episode was filmed as Satrale’s Pork Store before moving the location to Kearny after HBO picked up the series.

This place has amazing Hot dogs.
When I travel one of the first things I like to try is there hot dogs. And this place is!
There’s not a sit in place you order from the window on a beautiful day you get the chance to take in the city and enjoy the crunch of the hotdog and its flavor. Two thumbs up!!!

Parking: There’s not a lot to park in you have public street parking.
