This local Vietnamese spot delivers solid comfort food with great service, though the ambiance is fairly basic. The chả giò (spring rolls) were fresh, and the rendang gà (curry chicken with rice) was rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying. While the atmosphere is a bit plain and average, the staff was welcoming, and attentive.
I come to Saigon Cafe all the time and it’s one of the most consistent spots in Jersey City for legit Vietnamese food.
Everything off the grill is done right. The beef short ribs and the bone-in pork chop over rice are both super flavorful with that perfect char—slightly smoky, a little caramelized, exactly how it should be. The pork chop especially is a go-to for me, and adding the eggs just takes it up another level.

It’s also indeed pricy. $25 plus tax plus default 20% tips. $32 for a bowl of pho is imo a bit overpriced.
The portion was generous though. And the waitress was friendly and prompt. Clean restroom too.
