No idea why there are so many negative reviews. Food is great, affordable, fast. Soup dumplings are great, noodles & mapo tofu are great. 20% tip applied to bills is not a ridiculous ask, if you don't already tip this amount as a baseline when you go out to eat, you shouldn't go out to eat. Great place.
This restaurant charged 20% tips to your bill mandatorily which is making me and my friend very uncomfortable. And honestly they didn’t provide much service except serving you a cup of water and bringing the dishes to your table. I’d like to give restaurant more support in these difficult days but definitely not to encourage this way.
Terrible service. They gave us the wrong drinks and not all of our food. Don’t even bother eating here.
这是我去过的最糟糕的餐馆,没有之一!慎重以防黑店This is the worst worst worst restaurant I have been to. After today’s experience, I begin to read the reviews before going to a restaurant.Today is Saturday and I want to have a nice lunch. I chose this restaurant just because it’s close and I am slightly bored with Chef Tan (which is the best Chinese food in New Port). When I got in, several tables were not cleaned. I saw flies! I told them to clean them because the dirty tables are close to mine. I ordered buns, noodles and soups. Surprisingly they used cheap plastic plates to put them! The chicken soup is even not hot (only slightly warm. They might just use the micro oven to heat it for a short time). And I am forced to give 20% tip! (I didn’t finish the soup. Actually when I was on the way home, I felt uncomfortable at my stomach.) What a terrible experience!I argued with them how could you mandate 20% tip for such awful service. Why the soup is only warm? (The owner of the restaurant said I could have told him and he can heat the soup. This is ridiculous. The soup should be made not heated.) I argued with them for 10 mins and because they wanted to do business with other dining in customers, they changed the bill to remove the tip and one soup. They clearly don’t care about google reviews. There are so many one star reviews in google reviews but do they want to improve it? They don’t care about customers, do you think they can make good food?
This is my very first comment on Google, and I couldn’t forgive myself if I wouldn’t give this restaurant one star, and it’s even worse. We were told to pay 20% tips when ordering food. If the service was good then it’s fine, but things were not as ideal as what we thought. The waiter was not around, our order was forgot, and the most importantly, their food was really really bad and didn’t taste like what it should be.Shanghai Best is not the best at all. I do strongly not recommend this restaurant.
They would charge you but never let you know something are sold out and missing from your pickup package. When we realize those missing items, they won’t give you a full refund of the missing items until you argue with them!If you din in as an Asian, they would force you to tip 20% for breakfast. Such a Xenocentrism, not recommended!
In all honesty I had googled "best dumplings in Jersey City" and this was one of the restaurants that were close by and seemed to have what I craved... however I was not pleased with my order... The soup was plain.. and the pepper steak with white rice was okay.. the chicken with broccoli was nothing out of the ordinary ... The dumplings had a strange taste and did not bring any dipping sauce... The best part of the whole 35$ meal was the "4$ watermelon ice juice" ... however I wasn't impressed nor did I feel satisfied.. they are also a bit pricey.. and was a bit disappointed at the fact that I couldn't combine my orders with vegetable fried rice..
Love their buns and soup dumplings!
Came here to have lunch with a friend. My friend enjoys spicy Chinese food but I think it would be good to introduce him to the Shanghai cuisine. I explained to him earlier that this cuisine is more heavy on the sweet side and also heavier use on thickening agents. For appetizer my friend ordered scallion pancake, which is typically a northern Chinese dish. Turned out that the pancake was okay. We both ate a piece of two and I ended up taking them home, shredding them, and stirred fried them with shredded cabbage and wood ear (another famous northern Chinese dish). We also had dong puo pork -- it was good. The meat is soft and the color is so vibrant. It's a dish that would be very cumbersome to make at home. We both enjoyed it. Another entree we ordered was the eel stirred fried in chives. This dish is more complex. It has an aroma from sesame oil. I liked it but my friend did not. One thing that I don't like about this place is that we visited in AUG2021. A good proportion of the population already is not wearing mask and the restaurant is still charging a "mandatory service fee" aka tips. I personally tip well and many times I tip above what everyone tips nowadays. I just did not tip them what I normally would tip and just let them charge me that "mandatory" fee. Works in my favor, but I can imagine a lot of people would not be happy with it. Tips is an appreciation of service provided. When you turn it into mandatory I think that looks very bad.
Avoid dining in at all cost. Now they are trying very hard to be a fast Chinese food take out place. Food quality is nothing like two years ago (when it was just ok). Also 20% tip is mandatory.

The delivery man was so rude!! We live just 1 block away from the restaurant, and gave $3 tip. The delivery man was yelling at us and cursing us for not meet “his standard”. This happened twice!! And I found a lot of similar reviews of this delivery man. Avoid this restaurant! Or you will be cursed by their delivery person.
The service was horrible. Waiters were super rude. The food was expensive and very meh. They also have a mandatory 20% tip.
Overall a good option for a take out. Overall 3.5 stars for the price.Ordered few dishes for delivery. Food overall tasted pretty good except for few dishes. The beef in beef noodle was way too salty, almost too salty that few of us didn’t eat past the first - two bites. The general Tso chicken came so over fried that it was tough, chewy and dried. It didn’t look it because it was well drenched in its sauce, but it almost appeared double fried before delivery so it would get hot.Little confused about the scallion pancakes Bc it was.. missing scallions.Other dishes including mapa tofu and veggie dishes were good. I would say eggplant was the overall favorite. They were all packed well in its bags.
Had the Peking Duck. Not bad. Would def order it again. Place was quiet and clean when we went. Would go back again
Very authentic Chinese food, very pleasant surprise during our trip.
