i ordered the extra hot and he chuckled a bit. One bite of the sandwich had me fingering mascarpone cheese praying for the absolution of my sins. 5 stars thanks for the humbling experience and fuck you i'll be back.

My experience at The House of Hot Chicken was incredibly disappointing. Despite placing an online order, upon arriving at the store, my order wasn't ready. When I finally received it, the plates were filthy, leaving my hands dirty, suggesting a rushed preparation. Upon opening the container, I was greeted with watery mac and cheese that lacked any resemblance to its intended texture or flavor. The noodles were hard, and the dish was lukewarm at best. When I called to address my concerns, I was informed that the sauce was two days old, explaining its watery consistency, and that they had just finished cooking a fresh batch. This revelation was shocking and unacceptable. It's concerning to think what else may be served under similar conditions. Refunding or remaking my order was offered, but after being served something two days old, it's hard to trust the establishment again. A visit from health inspectors seems warranted to ensure the safety and quality of their food.

The closest thing to Nashville Hot Chicken that I’ve had outside of Nashville. I ordered 3 “hot” tenders and mac & cheese. I could only finish 2 tenders — they’re huge! I was pleasantly surprised with the mac & cheese as a lot of places make it pretty bland, but this one was decent. For me, the “hot” was pretty spicy and any spicier would be too much for me. I will say that the breading on the tenders is a *tad* thick. I think if they coat the chicken a bit thinner, it would be better. Still enjoyed it though and will be back for sure.

This is a hot chicken shop. It's takeout counter inside a gourmet organic grocery store. It's slow - taking 20 minutes even being the only person thereThe chicken sandwich is quite good, and the hottest (listed) level, Xtra Hot, is extremely spicy. That's what I've always gotten, and was pleasantly surprised. Think max spicy level at a Thai place, or the Blazin' Challenge level at Buffalo Wild Wings. And if you order in person, you'll see a special ultra extreme spice level. They don't allow it ordering from an app or calling in. And you must sign a waiver. Apparently it's "way, way hotter" than Xtra Hot, "twice as spicy at least," according to the folks working there. I will try it soon.Vegetarian options: Um, this is a fried chicken shop. For vegetarians, it is located inside a gourmet organic grocery shop

I go here everyday on my lunch break, shi is fire. I'd highly recommend the mac' n cheese with crispy chicken tenders. It is delicious, every single time they'll ask what kinda spice level you want too. I can't get enough! I'd also like to add that the staff is very hard working and diligent.

The chicken sandwich is huge and is made fresh when you order. A sandwich and fries is definitely enough to feed 2 people. I ordered mine medium hot, and while the young man at the register cautioned me that it might be too spicy, it definitely wasn't too spicy. I'd say the medium is about the same heat level as any other spicy chicken sandwich. I loved the slaw and sweet pickles on my sandwich. The chicken breast was nice and thick with no gristle or gross chewy pieces or anything. My only complaint was that the fries and chicken left a greasy aftertaste to me. I'd definitely recommend this place, though, if you're in the mood for a nice big, tasty spicy chicken sandwich.

The House of Hot Chicken in Jersey City beckons like a siren song for the brave and the hungry, promising a journey into the fiery soul of culinary ecstasy. Here, amidst the hum of urban life, lies an unassuming temple dedicated to the art of spice, a place where the chicken isn't just cooked, but transformed. As you step through the doors, the aroma hits you like a freight train of flavor, a potent reminder that you're not in for the ordinary. The ambiance is unpretentious, echoing Anthony Bourdain's belief that the best meals are often found where you least expect them. It's a joint that speaks of stories, of late nights, and of the communal bond of sharing a meal that's about to challenge your spice tolerance. The menu, a testament to simplicity and focus, offers variations on hot chicken that range from a gentle warmth to a scorching inferno that threatens to challenge the bravest souls. Bourdain, a champion of diving headfirst into the deep end of local cuisines, would have appreciated the no-nonsense approach to customization. Choose your heat level, pick your sides, and prepare for an experience. The chicken itself is a marvel. Crispy, golden-brown skin gives way to succulently juicy meat, each bite a harmonious blend of heat, flavor, and texture. It's the kind of dish that demands your full attention, not just for the spice that dances on your tongue, but for the craftsmanship involved. The heat is not just about scorching your taste buds; it's a carefully calibrated journey through the nuances of flavor that hot spices can offer.Sides are not an afterthought here. Whether it's the creamy coleslaw that offers a cooling reprieve or the mac 'n' cheese that is decadently rich, each complements the chicken, making the meal feel like a symphony where every element has its place. In true Bourdain fashion, dining at the House of Hot Chicken is more than just eating; it's an experience. It's about pushing your limits, exploring new flavors, and embracing the sheer joy of discovering something unexpected and delightful. It's a reminder that, sometimes, the most extraordinary meals are those that are laden with simplicity, honesty, and a touch of daring. The House of Hot Chicken in Jersey City isn't just a place to eat. It's a destination for those who, like Bourdain, believe that food is a gateway to understanding a culture, a place, and perhaps, even ourselves. Here, in the heart of Jersey City, the spirit of adventure lives on, one hot chicken plate at a time.

I got delivery the other day and it was awesome! I'm someone that always orders the hottest spice level anywhere I go, and I made the mistake of doing that here without reading any reviews and boyyy did I regret it. It's been years since I've had anything even remotely close to how hot their extra hot chicken was. I think ill honestly have to go with medium next time.I also got a side of their pickles which were perfect bread n' butter style chips, and a side of their mac and cheese which was absolutely delicious.

Do you think you're tough? Do you like spicy food? Are you confident you can handle any heat? Come here and be proven dead wrong ?Jokes aside, this place makes a great chicken sandwich and they don't skimp- not on the size, not on the sides, and NOT ON THE HEAT. I'm pretty spice-comfortable, but the Medium Plus has me burning. God help my soul if I go for Hot.
