I had Nunzio’s on my hit list after seeing Dave rate it an 8.6, but it fell way short of expectations. For me, this is a 6.2 at best. The pie was soupy, with flat, mediocre flavor from the sauce and cheese, and an overpowering oregano taste that dominated every bite. The pizza is excellent. Very thin crust and high quality sauce and cheese with a slightly sweet taste. The service was unusual. I made some positive comments about the old-school feel of the dining area, and was treated in an oddly condescending manner. Not a charming dismissiveness you sometimes get in smaller places, but open derision and mockery. Somewhat perplexed, I did some research and discovered that new owners bought in a few years ago, which perhaps is an explanation....
So I am moving into Long Branch this week. I google “best pizza near me,” and this place comes up. I order…I go there to pick up our food…I tell Chris I’m in the process of moving and ask for paper plates, napkins and plastic cutlery…he didn’t have any…he says “I’ll do one better.” He then goes in the back and grabs me 4 real plates and silverware…made my first home dining experience a great one that I’ll always remember! I returned the plates and silverware...
