Disappointed

Be aware that there is misleading information on their price fix menu for $40. Their price fix menu states: includes choice of first and second course. HOWEVER, the shrimp cocktail listed on the price fix menu is NOT INCLUDED in the $40 price of your choice of 2 items. There is an additional charge of $8 each, even though it is listed as a choice on the price fix menu selection. Upon receiving the bill, we noticed that we were charged an additional fee of $8 per each of 4 shrimp cocktails ordered in addition to paying the full $40 price of the price fix menu. Apparently, it sounds like they are aware of this as it has happened in the past. When this was brought to the manager’s attention, he stated that the chef sets the pricing and he cannot do anything about it. We will not be going back there. There are several other excellent restaurants in close proximity. On a positive note, our waitress was great.

The wrong cocktail arrived at my table. Price was adjusted. Both the cocktail & later a glass of wine arrived after I was respectively already halfway through my appetizer & main course. Only dessert & coffee was unhurried. I arrived before my theater performance early to have a leisurely meal. but the first 2 courses were rushed out of the kitchen. For such a lovely upscale & special gourmet restaurant, timing & pacing need major improvement.

The Carriage House Restaurant is literally steps from the PaperMill Playhouse. Great to stop in prior to a performance. The atmosphere is best described as "cozy and rustic". I've stopped in about 2-3 times for drinks and appetizers. The food has always been very tasty. Little on the pricey side. On a positive note, you're only a few steps away from the theater. As of now, I've had Chicken Sausage Appetizers and a Steak Quesadilla. Nice wine and cocktail list. We've enjoyed their wine and cocktails on a previous visit. In December '23, I had an issue making reservations. Left two telephone messages and never received a call back. I couldn't even make a reservation on Opentable or Resy. We stopped in and informed the hostess of the issue. Anyway, we ended up eating at the bar. The Carriage House Restaurant does offer Cabaret and Murder Mystery shows.

We have started dining at the Carriage House pre-theater. The production theme menu provides interesting choices and both times we've really enjoyed our dinner. The pork chop preparations are excellent.

The service and the food were good. However, $40.00 for a two course lunch seemed way over the appropiate price! My husband ordered the chicken pot pie and our eyes were wide in amazement when the entire pot pie was in the same soup-sized bowl the soup was served in. I ordered the burger, which came with a nice salad, making fries unnecessary. A small dessert would have been welcome, especially at the $40.00 price point.

Took my mom to Papermill for the afternoon play with lunch prior at the Carriage House. It was a very nice afternoon for both of us. Nostalgic for my mom who used to frequent. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation and were seating immediately. Sat in the room with the fireplace which was very nice. Our meal was delicious. The menu had a nice variety of options to please our palettes down to dessert. Service was personable and professional. Received meals promptly without feeling rushed. Had ample time for the quick walk to the theater. My mom uses a cane and needs time and assist so the environment was accommodating for maneuvering. Bathroom is located in the busy path of the kitchen but there doesn't seem any other option unless waiting till the theater but it's crowded to maneuver there so best at the Carriage House we felt. A memorable day for my mom and I.

The shrimp and crayfish bisque was nicely spiced, but absolutely no fish in either bowl. I had the osso bucco, which was delicious. He had the shrimp etouffee which was not very flavourful or interesting at all. The desserts were horrible. He had the baked Brie, which was a supplemental charge, and it was so weird and unpleasant it was barely edible. A piece of Brie baked in a tin with maybe some fruit, and a separate piece of puff pastry dough on top. The banana foster was also terrible and left unfinished.

My wife and I ate at the Carriage House Restaurant for dinner last night. We were supposed to go to an outdoor show last summer but it rained. When we got to the theater we were turned down to attend the show indoors because there was not enough seating. We were given 2 $25 gift cards to return for dinner. The service and the food were great! Our reservations were at 5:45pm. The only disadvantage was the restaurant closed at 7pm for a show at the theater. We felt a little rushed to finish dinner by 7pm. The restaurant was very crowded and noisy. That was understandable. The show must have been sold out for so many people to be eating at the restaurant. The menu was prix fixed; 3 courses for $60. My beer was $8. We felt this was very reasonable. My wife's soup was so-so. It tasted salty. I had the shrimp cocktail for appetizer. The shrimp was very good. My wife had the pork. I had the pasta dish. For dessert, my wife had the apple cobbler. I had the butterscotch gelato. The entrees and desserts very were very good. We would go back for dinner and to see a show. The theater and restaurant are popular; book in advance. We have been there for outdoor shows and dinner. It was wonderful. Just hope the weather is nice.

We wanted to grab something to eat and a drink before the show. Love the carriage house atmosphere (upstairs in the loft) but the food was mixed-my husbands order was great, mine was fine but nothing special. The menu is limited but overall I would definitely recommend a visit before or after a show.

Fun dinner!! Pre fix is always themed in conjunction with the latest production playing at the Papermill. Chef Jacques goes out of his way to create dining experience which makes one feel transported to the time and place one is about to experience attending the theater thereby making the evening a full adventure as it makes one feel transported not only as a viewers but as participant in the production. We are fussy about our food and can't say enough about the quality and care that goes into each dish served. Tonight we came to see “After Midnight” before the show we always eat at the Carriage House. I had the Etoufee ,Muffeletta Salad and praline ice cream off the themed prefix menu it was better than what I had in some restaurants when in New Orleans. My husband had bananas foster trifle for dessert which was lick the dish delicious. There are lots of fun events scheduled at the restaurant beside the Papermill productions it's worth attending. However the quality, taste and value of the food is worth making this a place to stop any day off the week for dinner off the regular menu food any day of the week. The bar also has a menu so it's a great spot to stop by for a drink and casual quality bite to eat. Carriage House restaurant is one of our happy places!

Dined here before and this was an opportunity to take family after seeing a delightful show at Papermill. Our server was wonderful and the food was delicious. Crawfish bisque was sooo good, shrimp cocktail delicious and plentiful. Main courses were all a hit. Rainbow Trout was delectable, the Chicken Fricassee was delish as was the Ossobuco, Pork Chop, and the Shrimp Etouffee. And who can't enjoy a Banana Foster or Apple Cobbler. We had Pinot Noir and Chianti and both wines were top notch. And good cup of coffee is the topper. Kudos to the Chef!

This restaurant always has provided a wonderful pre-show meal . The chef always offers a different menu for each different show at the Papermill . Today was no exception. The menu had a jazzy menu to accompany " After Midnight " show. Several classics were on the menu as well. The chicken pot pie with its creamy sauce, lots of delicious chicken, and a fluffy top crust is wonderful "comfort food"for the cold winter day. Thank you, Chef! The peanut/ chocolate ganache tart for dessert was decadent!

We enjoy eating a prefixe dinner prior to the plays. We did feel that the prefixe menus was too limited to heavy creamy foods. We usually choose two items to share and taste more variety. In this case the only choice for us was the Dry aged porkchop which was delicious and perfectly prepared. We were pleased that you could substitute mashed potatoes for the cauliflower Mac and cheese side dish. Neither of us can digest cauliflower or broccoli it makes us I'll. Initially the bread was served icey cold and when I questioned that the wait staff fetched slightly warmed rolls from downstairs. We enjoy sitting upstairs where it is quieter. The crayfish shrimp bisque was very good. Our dessert choices were very good. The cappuccino was served hot and creamy. Upstairs should have more silverware handy since they must run downstairs if they forget to bring a spoon. We would have liked a shot of sherry to add to our bisque but there was none at the bar. When we ordered frangelico after dinner they had to run downstairs for it. The wear and tear on wait staff could and should be modified by better supplies upstairs of utensils and a supply of the drinks offered on your menu. Have you considered installing a dumbwaiter. In my youth worked in a restaurant with a dumb waiter and it was very helpful.

Service was awful. There was nothing on the menu that I could eat so I asked the server for plain rigatoni with just cheese. He returned with a cheeseburger and told me that was what I had ordered. The three other people at my table were actually very vocal about saying they all heard me order the rigatoni. The cheeseburger went back and by time my rigatoni came out my companions had finished their lunch. Terrible experience

Very convenient for PaperMill Playhouse. Great food preparation and excellent service. We also liked the prix fixe idea, but wouldn't go there more often because prices are a bit steep. Thanks for asking.
