An expensive but very good choice for Chinese.Recommend the Peking duck and the Xiao Long Bao, the water spinach with preserves bean curb.Staff are friendly and helpful. However, unlike almost all Chinese restaurants I have experienced, they charge you for steamed rice. The prices they charge could easily cover some plain steamed rice. The Half Peking duck comes with 10 pieces of pancake. Be warned that if you need extra you better order at the same time as take about 15mins. Also the additional order is only 5 pieces for which they charge and is ridiculous they don’t inform you of this.Overall- great chive but you are nickel and dimed which is off-putting.

Delicious tofu and sauces.Lacks on more vegetarian and vegan options.Welcoming and nice staff. Beautiful dishes.Nice for a friend's or romantic date.Great to explore flavours.Super organized waiting list.We will definitely come back.Vegetarian options: Not many.Parking: Sunday the street park is free.Kid-friendliness: Not the best. Not that bright, not much space to them to walk around.

Service was absolutely terrible. We were seated and forgotten. Table beside us left after waiting an hour for food that never arrived. I had to flag down someone to get water refills. The initial small salad placed on the table were tasty, the soup dumplings were delicious (we were encouraged to get the pork dumplings, and they did not disappoint), the sliced beef, a signature dish, was good but nothing special, the fried rice was my favorite dish. We ordered a signature chicken dish, that contained shards of plastic. We flagged down someone (again, no one returned to our table), to advise them. After confirmation from the kitchen that it was plastic, we were told it would be removed from our bill and that we would receive 10% off our total. Our waiter never returned to see us. Lastly, a large table seated toward at the rear of the restaurant was extremely loud and rowdy, and cursing intermittently. Staff were inattentive and did not recognize (or care to notice) how everyone in the restaurant was annoyed. It certainly did not lend itself to an enjoyable experience. While the soup dumplings and rice were delicious, they are not enough to warrant a return.

The food wasn't good, but it also made us sick. When I arrived, they said they had a table ready and asked our party to wait 2 minutes; we waited 15. The wait staff was so poor at their job that we had to deflect the waiters' pressures to put in an order three times, we felt like we had just sat down. They filled the kung pao chicken with some sort of filler to make dish look fuller - most of it was NOT chicken, and frankly, I'd rather have a smaller dish. The chefs also used too much chili oil - all of our food - from the kung pao chicken to the lo mein to the pork belly - was all doused in chili oil. The same night, numerous members of my party were asking each other whether we had also gotten sick from the food. I'll never go back here frankly.

If you are black, avoid this place, unless you want to watch everyone that comes after you gets served first. And when your food finally comes to your table, it's iced cold. That was my experience. There was no mistake. It was blatant racism. It was extremely humiliating. I walked out after waiting one hour and 45 minutes for cold food to come to my table.I've just read another review from a black lady who had the same experience. If you have a problem with black people frequenting your establishment, don't open a restaurant in Montclair. Montclair is diverse.

Love the place! My daughter is so in love with their roast duck. Always pack more pickles to go.

First time eating at Jiang Nan was a not a great experience. We came on a Friday night. Parking was impossible and had to drive around finally found a parking spot 6 blocks away on the street. We had a reservation for 7 and were promptly seated. I noticed a table behind us was also reserved for a party of 12 people, but they had not arrived. Ordered the pineapple non- alcoholic ale and was delighted when the server brought it out and smoked the ale in front of us. That was pretty cool. Ordered the chicken roles, beef lo mein, large mouth bass in a large casserole (chonqing) and whole roast Peking duck. Food was tasty, especially the Chonqing style fish in casserole but the roast Peking duck at that price was carved inside the kitchen and where was the rest of the duck? More half portion than whole duck. I asked the waiter if this was the half duck duck or whole, he got offended and said obviously it's the whole enchilada. And when food all started coming out and we were starting to enjoy our meal, everyone showed up at the 12 person table behind us. They brought in probably a case of wine bottles. The party started! Except that they became so LOUD we could barely have our own dining conversation and the rest of the meal were so unpleasant, we quickly ate and paid the check to get out of there.

Service was a little bit on and off, had to flag people over to get more water and service. Food itself was actually quite good, pretty authentic according to the Chinese folks I was sitting down and eating with. The food can be spicy, so make sure you're prepared for that. Half a Peking duck was excellent, and the steam fish Chongqing style people liked (if you like spicy). I would skip the fried milk dessert as I've had better elsewhere.

More upscale version of a Chinese restaurant, sit-down and inside is dark and spacious room. The service was quick to get us seated (though there's a machine upfront to put yourself on a waitlist as it does get busier the later you go towards busy time). Water and tea brought out in reasonably quick time (though refilling later required constantly asking them). A change of plates mid-meal would've been helpful with the spicy dishes. They brought out some lightly preserved cabbage with spicy oil - this was good, could use more of it. Peking duck was good - thin sheets, all the accruements, and on a nice bamboo tray. It's misspelled on the receipt as "Pecking Duck"...funny. Good 1/2 duck and not quite enough of the thin sheet wraps, but the table liked it and the sweet bean sauce. Came with cucumber, scallions, potatoes, salt and sauce. The Home Style Crispy Fish I liked, but the people who grew up in China said it was just lacking some sweetness. Braised beef brisket with potato mild spicy ended up being too spicy for the kids at the table, they didn't like it, and I ended up eating it - the chewy brisket was good, but a bit spicy still even with mild spicy. Served on top of a single candle to keep it sizzling warm in the center. The potatoes we ended up putting into the next dish. Grilled Fish Striped Bass - Chongqing Style, with the set (mushrooms, potatoes, lotus root and seaweed added) - very authentic taste, which I wasn't as much a fan of but the table of adults across from me really enjoyed the green peppercorns and spices (medium spicy). Giant serving spoon. Boneless version with flounder filet is cheaper than the one with bones. Deep fried Japanese tofu w/ mixed seafood was a hit with the kids - they bring it on a hot plate and pour the sauce to sizzle on top of the egg tofu. Stir-fried sting bean w/ minced meat was ok, salty, though tiny tongs to serve with. All of those dishes.. and apparently bowls of rice not included. Three bowls of white rice, $1.50 each. Deep fried milk was so-so for me, they didn't have any condensed milk or sugar syrup to dip in, just plain fried milk corn starch sticks. Overall, dishes were pretty authentic, and the folks that grew up with these in China liked them. As an American-style palate, I found it spicier than expected. I did like the non-spicy dishes. Will have to try more next time.

It’s a chain store, the peking duck are pre-roasted so don’t expect you will get fresh roast duck, it’s on a pricy side. When you spend $30 or more you will get a soup dumplings for free (4 crab/meat soup dumplings) one time deal for me, i wouldn’t visit again, the food is not
