OVERALL NOT HAPPY!! TOO MUCH FOCUS ON PRESENTATION AND PRICE JUST TOO INSANE FOR WHAT THEY OFFER. VERY DISSAPOINTED . NOT AS I EXPECTED AFTER SEEING THEIR IG POSTS. FELT LIKE WE GOT ROBBED!! OVER $400 FOR 3 PEOPLE AND ONLY DRANK WATER šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø LEFT HUNGRY ONTOP OF EVERYTHING . JUST ANNOYED. WE DONT MIND PAYING ASLONG AS ITS WORTH IT.

I was excited to try this place because I am Portuguese and the food was underwhelming. I understand trying to modernize classic dishes but it was too much. It was so far from the description. The bacalao a bras was some type of custard mush, the duck paella was just okay and the pastel de nata was not a pastel at all. Maybe better descriptions because then it was confusing and did not meet my expectations when I received the food. Too bad ..

We were really excited about coming here for my birthday but we were not impressed with food there
The Shrimp pinchos had flavor and was grilled and had a Smokey flavor the bachalau was ok a little dry in my opinion.

We then ordered the chicken feijada it didn’t have much flavor and was bland and we also had the stuffed piquillo peppers with crab which were good.
For our third meal my wife had the pork belly roulade in which we were not impressed I had the duck paella which was good.
On website it states they serve seafood paella on SUNDAYS we went there specifically for that dish and were disappointed that it was not available
We then ordered the pastels de nata dessert.
Which we do not understand why this dessert is called this?
The dessert is a small CORN fritter with Raspberry?? and caramel.
I would recommend to be honest and tell the clients you do not have this dessert in the menu then serving us something that is not described in the menu.

It’s not a bad place we just had our hopes high especially since they are rated the #1 restaurant in NJ according to their website.

If we could give any advice,
we would recommend to stick to what you state on your menu if your menu online states $75 pre fixe then why do you charge $85 at the restaurant?
There is no difference and it is false advertisement!

Horrible handling of NYE reservations. Received a vague cancellation text about 1 hour before our reservation with our friends from out of town. The text said to call with questions and they didn’t answer once despite us calling many times. We were excited to try this place, but they’ve now lost our business with this poor display of hospitality and lack of basic customer service.

Texted me at 6:50pm on New Year's Eve to cancel my 8:30pm reservation.. completely ruining my night. Immediately called the restaurant and was sent to voicemail. Egregiously horrible levels of hospitality and frankly, disappointing from a fellow Portuguese-American.

I’m sorry but reading some of these reviews has me scratching my head: the food is delicious, elevated and unique to the area (not every restaurant in this town has to serve Italian food or stuffed burgers); the decor/ ambiance is soothing (they’re one of the few restaurants in town that actually understands the concept of warm, dimmed lighting); the wine offering is a creative way around NJ’s archaic liquor license laws… so A+ for effort there; and finally, the portions aren’t even small for a tasting menu! I was very full after eating here… just because the portion sizes aren’t family style doesn’t mean they’re not sufficient, especially when they’re composed of fresh, high quality ingredients. Sorry for the rant, but I swear some people in this town would flame Daniel if it opened a Montclair outpost because the portions aren’t big ā€œenough.ā€ Listen, if you want family style portions of mediocre food there are dozens of places you can scratch that itch in Montclair, but this place ain’t it. In my book, that certainly is not a bad thing.

I’ve dined at Tasca NYC a million times. It’s by far my favorite place in the city. So when I found myself in Jersey and saw ā€œtascaā€ I was thrilled.

The excitement faded as soon as I was told there was no affiliation. The experience at this tasca was miles behind what I’ve experienced at Tasca NYC. This is not it! Service was poor, food uninspired, wine selection basic.

I understand taking inspiration from places or things you like but if you’re going to try and be a copycat restaurant at least do 1 thing special or original. This place has nothing. Don’t go, don’t waste your money.

This is a stolen idea. Stolen concept. Stolen branding. Nothing about this place is real. The real Tasca is on the UWS of Manhattan in which this concept is based off of. It is criminal the extent the owners at this place have gone through to be unoriginal and STEAL from a family owned restaurant.

One of the best restaurants to open up in Montclair since BLu closed. We cannot wait to go back. Try the duck paella it was insane!

We had a large party and they nailed it. The service was spot on. The food was perfectly seasoned with the right portions…a really wonderful experience….
