I work in the local area and my company is always ordering catering from The Green Chicpea. Every time their food is great and most importantly when they deliver their food it is always packed so nicely!! I really appreciate that extra care for food delivery. Really helps out a lot!

The spot for excellent food on Halsey in Downtown, that happens to be kosher. Marty and his wife couldn't be nicer. The staff do a good job of moving the lines along quickly.Vegetarian options: A great spit for vegetarians. The falafel and salads are all terrific.

I honestly dislike leaving negative reviews but I have to speak my truth. Usually I visit here everyday for a soup and decided to invite a friend. This was my friends first time here and when we walked in, there was no greeting from the male behind the counter. He didn’t explain the menu or anything, he just stared at us. I tried my best to explain how I thought it was because I usually only get soup. My friend decided to try the bowl, she asked for chicken and rice. The guy serving us said,”You get two sides”, so my friend said,”Okay, can I have more rice”? The guy argued with her and said he already gave her rice. WHAT???? Then we are at the register and there is a woman who usually assist me. My friend explained the situation to her and the woman stated she was right, she will add more rice. The owner (a man) stopped her and told her no. He never asked what transpired, he didn’t care.It felt very uncomfortable and I couldn’t help to feel like something other than the food was the issue. We were respectful and polite and I wish this didn’t happen but hey people have a right to treat people any kind of way in their establishment. I have a choice in whether I want to support this business and tell others about it.

When you say "close at 4 PM", I shouldn't be told you're closed and not serving customers at 3:45. That's dishonest. Also, frankly, foolish. You miss a whole slew of potential dinner customers.

Delicious and fresh Israeli cuisineThe pita and laffa is very good
The Green Chicpea has been a long time fixture on Halsey Street. The food is delicious and freshly made each day, but just a tad expensive to have regularly on a student budget especially with the change in sizes. I recently got a bowl with shawarma, tomato and onion, and tabbouleh (which tend to be go-to) and found the bowl size to be smaller than what it was last year. Unfortunately, I don't have any previous photos for comparison. It's a great place to stop by for a quick lunch, but it does close on all Jewish holidays so just check to see if it is open before making a trip. The Moroccan potato salad is also a good choice!
