With all due respect, I was waiting for my cabbage “pad Thai” for about 20 minutes. The kitchen was occupied with people, yet only a few guests in the dining area. Despite being a first-time customer, I must say I was thoroughly disappointed. On the brighter side, the smoothie and latte were quite enjoyable.
First time at Roots new location. However, that’s not the only thing that’s changed. The menu once robust and filled with incredible choices of raw food has now been dwindled down. Most of my favorites, like the raw meatballs have been removed, and the recipe for the walnut meat has been adjusted with adding chickpeas.

I really wanted to like Roots Café in Closter—the concept is great and it fits the setting so well—but the execution just isn’t there.
Service was disappointing from the start. The person at the counter didn’t look up from cutting coupons while we were standing there ready to order, which set the tone in a not-great way.
