We went there for the first time and had a great experience! Food was great and staff was very friendly! Denice was awesome !
JBJ's concept to support the local community with good, quality restaurant fare, and free for those who cannot contribute. You may eat at tables with homeless. Workers are volunteers and we enjoyed the experience.
So impressed with everything about Soul Kitchen. Our server Denice was so friendly and welcoming. Food was phenomenal. Definitely be back
The Food, Atmosphere, and the Staff… all immaculate! First off, the reasoning behind the establishment is beyond charitable and all staff members are driven to help others. However the restaurant faced the issue of being short staffed BUT all staff members were able to treat each table with the same amount of respect and time. Hilary ( our waitress, the lady in the middle of the photo) handled the obstacle of being short staffed like a champ! She sat us, helped her peers, and kept us entertained the entire time. Extremely impressed by the experience and would recommend JBJ to anyone in the Red Bank area.
My neighbor recommended Soul Sandwich to me. I needed to cater a birthday party for about 60 people. Steve DeAngelo reached out to me to discuss my menu and my budget. Steve put together a menu for me that had a choice of dishes that would surly please everyone. I highly recommend the Tomato Caprese Skewers as an appetizer choice and the Chicken Francaise was one of the best I’ve ever had. I wish Soul Sandwich could have heard all the wonderful compliments we were receiving about the food. Steve, it was a real pleasure doing business with you and Soul Sandwich. You are courteous, professional and very generous with your portions. Thank you for your part in making our party a huge success.
I’m as enthralled by JBJ’s philanthropic endeavors as I am his music, so ever since learning of this restaurant 10 (?) years ago, I have been determined to visit. Though it’s a bit of a jaunt from our Colorado home to the Soul Kitchen, it was well worth every mile. The food was absolutely delicious, but the experience is what really stands out for us. From the moment we were seated by Chef Emily, we were treated like family. We explained to her that our son has celiac disease, and since we are extremely careful to avoid cross-contact, we needed to know what their process was with preparing and cooking their gluten-free menu items. Most restaurants will tell us that the ingredients are gluten-free, but they can’t guarantee the food won’t encounter cross-contact in the kitchen. Chef Emily, on the other hand, assured us that she and her staff would take all precautions to avoid cross-contact and deliver a genuinely gluten-free meal. We took a leap of faith and ordered something for our son, and Emily personally went the extra mile to follow through on her promise. This was our son’s first restaurant-prepared meal since being diagnosed over a year ago, and this sense of inclusiveness meant a lot to all of us. On top of that, the service was attentive and friendly well beyond service we've received at any restaurant. We had many wonderful chats with staff, had our family picture taken from every possible location and angle :-), and promptly received first-aid supplies when I cut my knee. Not sure how I managed to do that, but the staff sure came to the rescue when my mom purse was freshly depleted of bandages! The best part of our experience was seeing how every patron there was treated like family. The Soul Kitchen doesn’t just use the term “Community Restaurant” as a clever addition to their name—they truly involve the community, serve the community, and build community. We felt right at home, as it seemed everyone else did. My only regrets are that a) I can’t remember the names of the other wonderful servers we had, and b) we don’t live closer. I would make a regular habit of visiting this restaurant if I could. Thank you to Chef Emily and the amazing staff for an experience that went well beyond the expectations I'd built up for ten years!
My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at this small restaurant on the 22nd of June. Gina and the rest of the staff were so friendly the entire time we were there. The food was amazing with something for everyone to enjoy. Gina even took our picture while we were there. It was truly the highlight of my trip and a place that I will definitely be back whenever I am in New Jersey. Thank you to all of the amazing staff!!!
Visited the Soul Kitchen this evening and had a wonderful dinner celebrating the retirement of a colleague. Everything from start to finish was well prepared and delicious. We were greeted warmly by Nicole and had some time to speak to Emily and Lou after dinner. Everyone working so so friendly! If you haven’t been to this wonderful place go right away and enjoy!!!
For a $30 suggested donation, get a 3 course meal wonderfully cooked. Most of this review is around what I observed while dining here, rather than the food (which is delicious and worth the suggested donation). The staff and volunteers take the mission to heart and then some. My partner and I are blessed to afford the meal and then some but we saw the staff greet and treat ALL guests with the same dignity and respect that they treated us. I saw a gentleman who looked as if he had fallen on hard times walk towards the restaurant but didn't come in. He was sort of lingering, not sure if he would be welcomed. I saw a staff member approach him and asked if he needed any help. While I didn't hear what the gentleman said the staffer left and came back with one of the cooks with some bottles of water and a take away box with food inside. While the gentleman ended up declining the food and water and walked away, I was extremely touched by the empathy and care the staff showed towards this individual. I want to thank the Bon Jovi's and the team for demonstrating that there is hope for the world.
My wife and I decided to finally have dinner at this highly rated restaurant. We arrived early and walked around Red Bank until they opened at 5pm. We were greeted by Nicole, who is a staff member, and Hillary, a volunteer server. Both were very pleasant and committed to the restaurant’s mission. They explained that the menu changes every 2 weeks. We had summer berry salads, baked Cajun buttered cod, and the chef’s house dessert, which was an amazing apple type cupcake with whipped cream. I had a decaf coffee to accompany the delicious dessert. The cost for this incredible meal was $30 per person, plus we donated $20 to “pay it forward.” We ate outdoors and enjoyed the warm weather. I spoke with the chefs and told them how much we enjoyed their food and that we would spread the word about the first class meals served here.

This restaurant is more than a restaurant. It’s a chance to give back and eat yummy food. Our server, Mo, and the asst Kim were great. We enjoyed our dinner. We highly recommend the experience.
