“I came here because I was really hungry after work and boy did I leave super full. The staff is super nice and friendly, especially Mohammed who is behind the counter. He brought me anything I needed to complete my meal right away. I definitely recommend and will be coming back!“

“I’m visiting NJ (lived here for a long time) and wanted to eat some of my favorite foods. I ordered dinner from port of peri peri and it was perfectly cooked but missing my fries. I let that be known to the restaurant and received a small refund. Next night, I ordered dinner again and I received a large order of fries on the house as well as a discount card for 5% for dine in orders valid for one more week. Amazing customer service. “I came here with my family and some friends before an Elton John concert and we had a fabulous time. My brother and I absolutely feasted on the delicious empanadas. I ordered the grilled skirt steak and it was delightful. The staff were friendly and attentive. My crew and I had a blast there and would highly recommend if you’re in the area.“

“Pleasantly surprised with my first time ordering! I had a hard time finding good portuguese food in Bergen County, but I was very satisfied with my order of chicken and ribs combo, small salad and cod fish cakes.
The food was fresh, properly cooked and tasted great condiment and spices wise! It reminds me of restaurants in Portugal, where I never have to ask for salt or any other condiments, as the food is always on point.
I'll definitely go back and try their fish and seafood dishes next time.

“I have been buying food at Maria's BBQ for a long time because I really like the food there and I would like not to damage the image or reputation of the business but something made me quite curious and doubtful when the girl said that the liquid in the hood exploded so no. They had gas and that's how they were working for 3 days... Mr. Manager, if this is true, you would be expecting a lawsuit because you are putting the lives of many people at risk and I cannot tolerate this because my family also consumes your food...“

“I’ve been ordering from The Pit for years the staff is always friendly, and the food is consistently fresh and flavorful. No complaints there at all.

That said, I wanted to give a heads-up for anyone ordering the beef ribs half combo. I recently ordered the same half beef rib(S) and chicken combo I’ve gotten in the past. Typically, when I order the half beef rib(s), I receive 2–3 beef chuck ribs. This time, however, I only received one rib — which was surprising, considering the plural wording and my prior experiences.

I called and spoke with Jeff, who was respectful and upfront. He mentioned that the combo only includes one beef rib and that prices have gone up (which I totally get). Still, based on my regular orders over the years, I’ve never received just one rib until now. Either way, I appreciate his transparency.

For context:
• Half chicken combo = ~$11.95
• Half beef rib(S) & chicken combo = ~$16.95

So if you’re expecting multiple beef ribs, you may want to reconsider and go for the chicken or pork ribs instead both still come in hearty portions.

To be clear, this isn’t a complaint just advice for fellow regulars or first-timers who may be surprised by the term beef rib(S)with a single rib. I’ve even added pictures in photos comparing what I received vs. the half chicken combo.

Bottom line: The Pit remains a solid spot with delicious food, generous sides, and great service just be mindful of the current beef rib portions when ordering.“

“They did a great job with my catering order. They are extremely friendly and accommodating. Everyone at the event loved both the ribs and BBQ chicken. The amount of food was great for the price. I was able to feed and have my guests take home too. Definitely recommend them for your catering needs.“

“I’ve been going to this place for 20+ years. I wish the place would expand their dine in section. Also, with business should reinvent itself and accept credit payment. FYI, Not many people carry cash nowadays. On the other hand, food and service is great.“

“I just wanted to clarify myself to the worker in that restaurant especially the one in the front. We went at the restaurant today around 2pm. We went inside the restaurant and did not talk right away to let them know we were 2 customers, instead I stopped for a second and checked if we went to the right door. The worker in the front thought that we went in there to look for a guy and be with guy and do something. I just wanted to let that worker in the front know that we went there to eat and not to look for a guy. When we finished eating, that worker in the front got replaced with a young guy. I just don’t want the worker in there to think that we went there to look for a guy. We love to go to the church. Now a days, it is very important to do the right thing. We have a song in the church “choose the right.” Don’t judge the people by just physical appearance.
But other than that, the food was delicious. I highly recommend the restaurant.“

“Spur of the moment went with a friend. We sat down to eat. Food was good. Service was great. The lady was very attentive and real nice. I had rice, fries and chicken. My friend had rice, fries and shrimp in garlic sauce.. It was on point..The chicken is always moist and tender. No one bothered as as we sat and talked for abt 2. 5hrs.“
