I don’t like leaving public reviews. I wanted to email the gateway management directly, but they don’t publish any way to email them.

I stopped in late on a Thursday, late June. I ordered a Guinness. The price was $10.40. So with a minimum tip I paid $12 for a Guinness. In my opinion, that is ridiculous. It’s not that I can’t afford it. It’s the principle. A Guinness should cost between $7-$9 tops. For this reason, I won’t be back.

It’s a shame because the bar is a great space. The bartender was friendly and professional. But I simply am not willing to pay those prices, again on principle. Charge $7-$9 for a Guinness, I would order 3 or 4 and hang out for a while, and come again in the future. Charge me $10.40, and I simply won’t come back and will seek out a beer elsewhere.

I’m not bashing the business for any other reason than these very high prices. No one else anywhere in the area charges this much.

Edit: To the Gateway’s credit, beers like Yuengling, Miller Lite, etc were priced reasonably. So if your into the lighter mass produced beers, this is definitely a good spot to enjoy those. I just personally prefer craft beers (and Guinness), and those were priced too high for my taste.

Our bartender Brian was absolutely amazing. Give this man a raise.

French onion and new England clam chowder were very solid. Decent sized wings. Prices were outrageous, even for a shore joint in my opinion. I'll leave it for the tourist in the summer.

There’s this tremendous atmosphere along with themed nights which brings back a nostalgia so missed here on LBI. Your parents would be proud Ronald!

Still the best clam chowder and you cannot tell me otherwise. The bread bowl is toasted perfectly. Good bands and entertainment. Staff is always nice, decent selection of beers and alcohol. Good food overall. Our staples are the chowder, potato skins, and wings but have had their sandwhiches which have been good as well.
