Nice quality tea house that tries to keep up the traditional vibe. Make sure you wear a tea hat. Food stack was pretty good.

Celebrated my birthday with the "Breakfast at Tiffany's" celebration. What a wonderful time!! Food was delicious, decor was beautiful, service was attentive and excellent. I even bought a fascinator and shopped the gift shop. Loved the beautiful piano music played during tea. We toured the available rooms which were decorated so that you thought you were in victorian Cape May. Thank you for a "memory day", I will definitely be back!!

I really wanted to like this place. My friend and I went for afternoon tea - The decor is beautiful and the live pianist was nice. The tea is delicious, and I like that each guest gets to choose a flavor for their own pot. But that’s pretty much where the good ends. We called ahead about dietary restrictions after making the reservation, and reminded our server upon arrival, but by the time food came out she forgot them and had no idea what she was serving us. The sandwiches were fine, but the scone wasn’t served with real clotted cream, it was some kind of cream cheese and no jam to cut through the sweetness. The deserts were meh. Overall, the food just wasn’t very good - it was all too sweet with nothing tart or fruity to cut through it. And clotted cream is just a non-negotiable with any self-respecting afternoon tea. I didn’t feel that it was worth the price that we had to pay ahead of time when booking the reservation. We likely will not return

Really enjoyed my first visit here after wanting to go here for many many years. The house was decorated so beautifully for Christmas. Aunt walking through it is incredible. We had the tea service as well and everything was delicious. It was a lovely experience and I would recommend this to anyone who wanted to enjoy a unique experience. Relaxing and cozy, really nice!

The Mathis House is wonderful and the owner Vicki could not have been a better host. We highly recommend a stay, especially during the months of December and January when the Mathis House is decked out for the Christmas season, including 35 Christmas trees!

My family and I stayed ay the Mathis House recently and occupied all 4 suites available on the second floor. I can't say enough about the positive experience we all had. Thanks to Innkeeper Vicki and her staff. Personable, caring, and warm. The food is excellent and Vicki made everyone feel comfortable and at home. We look forward to returning soon.

The place was decorated beautifully and the scones were the best I've had. They were moist and tender with a great flavor! Our server was kind and attentive always checking to make sure we needed anything. We even got to try more than one soup which I really enjoyed! The food was wonderful. But even though this is my fault for not saying anything, the tea seemed to be weaker than I'm used to. Our server did ask if we needed it stronger and she took both our tea pots back to brew a little longer. They came back a bit stronger but it still wasn't quite there and I didn't want to seem fussy. So my fault, however I'm curious as to this process? I usually steep my tea for 4-5 minutes and the tea is always great unless I don't put enough tea leaves in the proper amount of water. Anyway, both of us didn't say anything the 2nd time around but we both thought the tea was weak. I did want to let you know our experience. We still loved our time there and will recommend highly!

We have been to the Mathis house few times. It's always amazing- beautiful, welcoming, cozy, perfectly decorated....last night we attended the "Tea and scones with Santa" event. What a great experience!!! The kids had a blast!!! The best part was Santa and Mrs Claus and the man that was playing the piano! They were so extremely nice, polite, talking to the kids and going around the tables. Their interaction with all the guests was amazing! They seemed that they really enjoyed what they were doing! The best Santa and Mrs Claus in town for sure!!! We didn't feel rushed. The man playing the piano was great, the kids were all singing Christmas songs, it sure was a priceless memory!
Highly recommend The tea house, it's absolutely stunning and so beautifully decorated for Christmas!!!
