This Japanese restaurant was a wonderful experience. The food has an authentic and well-balanced flavor, but the dumplings stole the show: absolutely spectacular, some of the best I’ve ever had! The atmosphere is super pleasant, with a vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy. On top of that, our server was very kind and attentive, which made the visit even more special.
Without a doubt, a place worth coming back to.

2nd time disappointment out of 2. Pretty much same issues of service, missed order items, drinks not being delivered or late…
Last 2 visits to Akai for 2 people.
- missed items off the order so 2nd appetizer came after having to ask for it again after we had already finished first app
- waiting forever for waiter to get 2nd drink order long after it was finished, ruining the flow of food/drinks together (he was too busy chatting to certain local friends).
- an espresso martini with added baileys was served as a ‘baileys martini’ - no espresso, no kahlua. And waiter didn’t resolve, he went to the barman and asked him to come over to us! Which happened after we
Had finished eating so too late. But that’s not the barmans job to come to our table, it’s the waiters job to work between customer and bar.
My wife worked many years in restaurant hospitality and has never been so disappointed that she tipped so little.
Sorry Lillian, love you and what you built Akai up to and what it used to be, but standards are slipping….

I rarely go out to eat locally as I prefer the city. But lately I’ve started to try places friends rave over. I got so excited when I walked in because the decor impressed me. When I ordered I very CLEARLY said noodles. The waiter brought out rice. I said excuse me, I wanted noodles. He got very spicy with me! Like wow! What is it with service lately? I simply told him I said noodles and he was adamant that I didn’t. I worked entire dining rooms myself as a teen and college student. I never gave customers an attitude even if I was sure they were wrong. I paid almost $200 for my family to eat there and that interaction made me so upset it’s unlikely I’ll be back. Be nicer!

Alright, this place was not worth it. Honestly I think sushi from Walmart would taste better. The sushi was bland and 15 dollars I would recommend many places before this. It looked cool inside though. But still, not worth it

The best sushi around with a mean Lychee Martini. The sushi is truly an art form at Akai. We had a few Bonzai Tree appetizer rolls, sashimi, and Basterrd and AME rolls. The owner is really accommodating and amicable.

Took my son there for his birthday. Water dripped on us throughout our entire meal from a vent in the ceiling - on our food, in our drinks, on our table and on us. When we complained the waiter said that happens and shrugged his shoulders. They forgot my drink. They forgot my sauce. They forgot his soup. The food was expensive and of average quality. We asked them not to charge us for the soup as he had not received it, yet when the bill came the soup was still on it. Do not recommend.

Food was so bland the fish wasn't fresh. Aweful tasting food. On top of that, the server took forever to come to our table on a slow day. Bad service on top of that. She was too busy chit chatting. The place needs new chefs and servers. HORRIBLE

Very average sushi/sashimi. Avoid the Bluefin Toro. They don’t know how to cut it. Noodles are good.
