Amazing food and very accommodating staff. It’s nice to see such a great variety of fish options in Newfoundland! The Chef’s choice omakase is very nice.

This was our first time visiting Basho. We frequently visit St. John’s and very much enjoy the restaurant/food scene in town. This was one of my favourite meals I’ve had ever! The filet mignon was the best steak I’ve had in St. John’s hands down, the flavour was amazing and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the special of the night which was the seafood steamer, which was mussels, scallops and shrimp in a Cajun cream sauce.. unreal!! He also had the spicy scallop roll which was so fresh and tasty. I can’t wait to visit again!
Have been there several times and is always an awesome meal! The best restauraunt in St. John's in my opinion!

My wife, and I absolutely love this place, but unfortunately I can't convince my wife to return for Valentines day. We were regular costumes, there almost twice a month. The only reason she won't go back is because of the costumer service she gets from the one waitress. She's so unfriendly to her and only her. We went there with our family, and my wife told them just watch how she will treat her. The waitress didn't disappoint. Our family was amazed on how she treated my wife, and it was only her. She was treated like garbage by her, and spoke to her like she shouldn't be there. It's a shame that a waitress would treat you like she's better than you. We love this place, its such a shame Basho. Please do better with your costumer service.

I had to leave as the hostess was pretty much a racist , She was trying to seat me in an absolutely unacceptable place. Dumb stupid arrogant person .

Appetizer was pretty good - Tenderloin and scallops. Steak a little overdone, but tasty. Sushi was dry. Rice was dry / starchy and the tuna / salmon almost tasted freezer burned. Tried to enjoy but had to send it back. That said, the server was great and did take that off my bill. Every place has an off night and I will try again, but probably the steak next time. Meals my friends had looked great.
All style and no substance. Servers seem very disinterested in you. Poor service coupled with ok food makes for a poor night

The place is awesome. The duck was phenomenal. Been here a few times the menu doesn't change much but also doesn't disappoint. Their food is plated well with good portions and flavor combinations. Of all the restraunts in downtown St. John's this is my personal

Our dinner at Basho was a mixed experience. Firstly, while the server was nice, she was very clearly under the influence of either drugs or alcohol. This affected her ability to clearly communicate and to provide a positive experience. Secondly, I found my drink, and the drinks I saw around other tables to be childish in both taste and presentation. For a restaurant with such delicious and refined food, I believe they are doing themselves a large disservice with their drink offerings. They should take a look at Number 4s offerings just up from them for inspiration and an example of what could be expected of a restaurant at that price point. In my opinion their drinks were worse than those offered at a club like Konfusion or Dusk. As stated above though, all the food here was exceptional! As a note, I would appreciate it if the restaurant provided real menus to their customers, it ruins the atmosphere when everyone is browsing on their phones through the menu.

I recently went here with a group of 6 people and it was phenomenal. I was told they have the best steak in town and they truly do, it was delicious as were the cocktails and sushi. Our server and the hostess were friendly as well, all around a great experience!
