Very delicious food at a great price with really friendly staff. Highly recommend the Mafé which is beef in a fantastic savoury peanut sauce over rice. The Chicken Yassa was great too, more mild with lots of sautéed onions. Nice selection of west African dry goods too, spices, fufu flours. Always something to discover!

Love the food here and it's so underpriced. The beef mafe is world class, nothing like it in St John's. The marinated chicken in their dishes is crazy. They serve fresh Baobab Juice and I'm telling you, for a hangover, nothing beats it. It's a miracle cure. They also have the best price in town for Jarritos soda. The owner is very excited to explain any questions you have about his products. They've got a huge selection of spices, skin and haircare, cold drinks, and grocery items on top of their amazing food. I bought a pack of orange blossom soap and now I smell like a king.Also, the food they serve is halal. When you go, you have to try the hot pepper sauce that the owner prepares himself. It's almost like a salsa and you will be addicted right away!!
We ordered the Patties, one beef dish and chicken that we shared with our two year old. It was all exactly what we needed, just a satisfying mix of flavours & our two year old ate all of her portion with many “Yums” being uttered. Mama Africa has been added to one of our favorite take outs!

Absolutely love this place, the folks who run it are friendly and knowledgeable, and bottom line: they make awesome food. The store side of the business has a lot of difficult to find African cooking ingredients, and treats from all over. The prices are very reasonable, and there are some absolute killer deals on things like olives.My favourite place for takeout in St. John's, by far.
