What a unique and delicious experience! Dishes are prepared in such an original way with fresh local ingredients. We went on a Saturday night and then went back again Sunday so we could try more dishes. The lightest, most delicate gnocchi we've ever had. Roasted beets, oysters and steak are stand out. All this spectacular food is served in a laid back friendly atmosphere. No stuffiness here.

Excellent food and service! Our server was friendly and attentive, recommending dishes that would be best for us to share. He and his colleagues were surreptitious in tidying our table and minding our needs, so we had a great time chatting and relaxing. We will definitely be back!

The food was delicious - between 4 of us we tried 5 veggies (1/2 portions of each potatoes, carrots, turnip, beets and broccoli), the steak and stake tartare mains, devilled eggs and focaccia - all were excellent. The cocktails were tasty - it was the perfect atmosphere for a girls night/catch up with friends!

We were visiting St. John's for the first time and wanted to try a nice restaurant. The name, branding, and menu brought us to Portage — and it did not disappoint! I have never experienced more attentive and thoughtful service. Each dish was absolutely amazing, rich in flavors, and perfectly balanced. The Penicillin cocktail was also outstanding. We felt like we were tasting the landscapes of Newfoundland through a very well-thought-out menu. Bonus points for the excellent playlist, which added to a perfect atmosphere.

Portage is a wonderful spot in downtown St Johns. I've had the please to dine here when it first opened. The entire experience was an absolute improvement from the first visit. (Which was also pretty good) A wonderful and friendly server,happily accommodating our need for smaller Portions. Beautiful signature cocktails, a refreshing vegetable heavy menu. And a delightful cod dish that could hold its own at any North American Sichuan restaurant. Portage has rightly earned it spot as one of the country's best. Essential to any avid diner living or visiting the Rock.
