We were told that there were gluten free options on the menu but waited half an hour to be told there weren’t really any. Waited another 15 to pay for our drinks and leav

Not a fan of waiting more then an hr1/2 + for food. It was a Wednesday evening, I brought my in-laws for dinner it's their first time to nl....I was so embarrassed we didn't get any food. Ate at subway... the manager was rude

Fantastic food and staff, wonderful patio. The blackened salmon was the best meal I've had on the island. They brought a bowl of water out for my pup on the patio. The lemon cheesecake was the perfect finish to the evening.

This restaurant is over priced and the food quality and service is ridiculous. I just spent $53.00 for a serving of nacho’s. They were over cooked. The chicken ( which I paid an additional $9.00). Was over cooked, and there may have been 5-6 very small bit size pieces. If you are looking for a nice night out , skip the Gypsy tea room and choose any other restaurant on water street! Helen

Chose restaurant based on outside board menu specials. Party of 4. Sunny, 28 degrees and sat at outdoor sidewalk patio. Placed order for drinks and food with server. Shortly was given water pitcher and glasses. Server informed us almost 1 hour later that special no longer available and had to place another order. Only then did server bring ordered drinks. Watched 3 other people/parties be seated, given drinks and served food before we even received drinks. Server did not ever refill or offer more water. Thursday, June 12, downtown St. John’s, super warm day sitting in hot sun. Unfortunately, our server must have missed placing our order but did not own her mix-up and not apologetic. Not impressed with server experience and long wait time.

We had a reservation at five and we were treated like a walk in. We were put by the door and I was like we had a reservation. My husband spoke to the lady who sat us and asked why were we not put inside where you usually sit when you make a reservation. She said you now have to request to be seated inside. Weird. She then did some checking and came back to us and said we could sit inside if we were out of there by 6:30. I was ready to walk out and say shag it but my husband wanted to stay cause it was our Anniversary. I told her don’t worry we won’t be lingering. The atmosphere inside did not have the same ambiance or romantic energy. The lighting on the tables were changed and they no longer offer bread to start. I still wanted to make the best of it. Even how you order is done differently ,I couldn’t even order my regular Blackened salmon meal. Now you have to order sides separately. You are known for your blackened salmon but your sides to accompany it are severely lacking. Basically, your choice of starches are fries or loaded potato with sour cream not the best thing with a rich cream blackened salmon. So my anniversary meal was basically just blackened salmon yeah me!! It was no problem to be finished before 630 felt like they didn’t want our business and no problem you won’t be getting it, or any new recommendations from us, like the hundreds of customers we pointed your direction over the years. Theres a reason your restaurant was picked for our anniversary meal but Gold Star no more. But one high light of the night was the Mrs Ropers you were awesome. Lori and Bernard

My husband and I began going to the Gypsy Tea Room when we stumbled across their private rooms as a possible wedding venue. We have loved every meal and drink we have had in the many visits since, especially on our wedding day. The service is always top notch, the drinks are delicious, and we love the atmosphere. We did of course choose it for our wedding and the staff made the day an absolute dream. I really wanted to make sure we had good food for our reception and everyone has raved about it since. Absolutely recommend, either for a date night or a big event!

Pretty tasty food. Lovely bunch of fellas working there. After I told him I was home visiting from Alberta he told me (in jest, obviously) that the scallops were all the way from the Great Athabasca River in Alberta 😂

The wine sauce was a touch strong but enjoyable and the mussels were a little undercooked for my usual preference but I slurped them all down in lightening quick succession and ravaged the garlic bread mercilessly.

Parking: Good luck finding parking on that super busy street. May have to go to a lot somewhere and walk a short distance.

Terrible experience. Came in group of 20 for Christmas luncheon, we pre ordered our food , reservation for 1pm. I waited for over an hour for my food, everyone else had finished eating and I still did not have my food or my drink. I am very unhappy, it was my first and last time visiting this restaurant. We were a group of 18 and was seated and one of the large rooms in the lower floor. The room was fantastic, spacious, and gave us a private space for interactions. Our server was very attentive a patient. I ordered the cod fish burger and I would definitely ordered again. Portions was great, tons of fries. The clam chowder was excellent as well, and I particularly like the fact that it was not salted too heavily, like many other restaurants do. Chunks of fish were present. I would say the carrot cake was okay. It's not as small as some of the better ones I have tasted but that may be my own particular preference.
