The new drink menu was good, food was good overall for the group. However, the scallop special was too small for a main, and should have been noted. It was 3 scallops and very little else. Also, there was not a lot of flavor, though the scallop texture was great. Despite being a slow night, the service was excruciatingly slow. Other experiences have been great, and I hope this is not indicative of its future. The other regular menu meals were good as always.
Best restaurant experience in town. Food is always reliable, drinks are excellent and service is impeccable.
Quite noisy and very dark and hostess was not very attentive and took long to take our orders and the food took a long time to be served and other than the fries being cold and the prices being high the rest of the food was absolutely amazing
Great atmosphere, in a well positioned building, in a wonderful city. The wait staff were great however we found the food a bit ordinary.
One of the best dinning experiences ever. The food was amazing. We had a great night! Highly recommend you go to the merchant!
We had an early reservation before a concert. Andrew (ginger;) was friendly and attentive. Checked on us at all the right times etc. the food was delicious and cocktails too!! Definitely going back
To be honest the fish the last 2 weekends was very pour. I get it's the fall but the portion was so small and overcooked. I am not a fan on lentils or white beans any veg puree would be better, I do love this restaurant,
Great tasting food and good service. Bad table location. Small and inexpensive features and designs could improve ambiance.
Lovely meal, fresh and hot. Service was great, table was small as we were poked in the corner but we made do. Our server was great and even though my husband didn't get his beer it certainly didn't affect our evening.
We were unfortunately forgotten about, our meal came uncooked and looking like it was rushed. Our server was great and friendly.

Experienced The Merchant Taverns November “be our guest” menu and it was incredible. The food was delicious, the service was great considering how busy it was, and the music was just right!
We did the November tasting menu and everything we ate was delicious. Great atmosphere, great food and great service!! Beef tartare, mushroom capenelle, and pistachio cake, incredible!
Great service by the wait staff. We were able to relax between courses and the food was delicious.
This was one place we really wanted to eat at while in town.
The food was amazing. Local flavours and food, well prepared, and delicious. The chef clearly has talent and an eye for flavour.
Where it lacks is in service and decorum.
We asked for the bill to come with dessert as we were under a time crunch (confirmed all this and the timing before ordering with the waitress). We asked again when dessert was served, and again fifteen minutes later.
A few of the servers, ours included, were acting unprofessionally, including doing their hair and makeup touchups in the food prep area. As it’s an open kitchen area, staff really should not be doing these things in that area as it makes you question the hygiene levels the restaurant has.
So while the food was spot on, there is a lot on the service side that could be improved.
