Very clearly a local type of place. I saw multiple people come in who recognize others that were already seated and everyone stopped eating to give each other. Hugs or say hello, etc.I had the red chili burrito and some fries. The burrito was a little spicy but that's just cuz I'm getting older and it was just a really basic burrito you might get from your grandmother with meat in it and chiles. The fries were decent and many people were ordering the hamburger which seems to be there. Go to order but others were also thanking them for making the green chile which I guess is also popular. At lunch time you can really see that this is a locals spot.

Not real fast service, but only one waitress doing tables and the counter. And it was busy around noontime. So by the time we got the food everything was warm to cooled off. The flavor was good, not great, but could be because of it cooling off?I know a lot of locals eat there and over 40 years ago we were ones too and really liked the tacos there. The menu has really expanded since then.

We stopped here for lunch on the way to Mesa Verde based on a recommendation from the ladies at the Chama visitors center. We were in the mood for burgers and they said this was a good place to get them - they were correct! Service was friendly, but a bit slow as it appeared there was only one person working as cashier and waitress. ( I assume there was someone else cooking) As mentioned earlier, they only take cash. My disappointment was when I asked about the sopapillas I saw being served at a nearby table, we were told you could only get them if you had ordered one of the Mexican entrees.

We chose this because of it is full of local cars at lunchtime. We were not disappointed by the crowdedness, (more cowboy hats than our entire trip), the cowboy menu cover, and the much-recommended Green Chile Burger, fresh onions, superb fries, very friendly locals, cracked a joke with us on the way out. Come again if I am around the

Not much to look at, but the food is GREAT!

Surprisingly nice flavors and portions. Lots of rules posted on the walls, don't touch blinds, don't move tables, don't touch TV... There isn't much selection of restaurants in Chama, JV's is probably in the top three.

We only get to JV's place when we camp at Heron Lake state park. A very busy place. It so worth the trip. Excellent food.
