We stopped in for a quick drink and look around before our final destination. We were welcomed with open arms, a great bit of history and delicious drinks! Would have loved to stay the night and have some dinner next time!
Incredible historic location, visit while it's still open there is a rumor this gem of Cimarron.

We’ve been trying to get here for a while so when we finally made it we were excited to be here. The food is good but the service is basically non-existent.
Adter our food was served the waiter never came back, we needed refills on water and iced tea. The water would pass by several times back and fourth but never stop or wven looked at our table. So i get up and walk over to the bar across the room and asked the guy standing behind the bar (glasses & cap) i asked him for water ans iced tea and he just blew me off, this guy just stood there. So i walked to a different room looking for someone to serve me.

Recently cut back their hours, got rid of most of their menu, and raised prices. Small town restaurant death spiral.
Good food and service miss the larger menu, only reason for 4 stars Great place to stop in Cimarron and even when busy service is great.

Waitress said first day with new menu, ordered Southwest salad and husband had fish and fries.First brought out wrong salad 15 minutes later brought out correct one after another gentleman sitting across from us asked a waitress if she could please find my salad.Once received know why took some time was definitely frozen small pieces of chicken(6 small bites) that were Very cold and think someone probably just ran water to thaw, menu stated tortilla strips (pretty sure) but actually chili flavored Fritos and dressing was Very watered down.Waitress did give $1.99 discount just SO GLAD DIDNT ORDER LARGE ONE.Sad because in years past great food.Husband said Fish just Ok
I stayed two days at the St. James and ate three meals at the Lambert Restaurant. I ate the fish and chips, reuben, and chicken fried steak. I was told there is no better place to eat nearby, and I was never disappointed. The spicy sauce that comes with the fish and chips was unique and tasty. The rueben was perfect as well for a lunch sized meal. The chicken fried steak was absolutely delicious, but too big to eat with its sides. I barely finished it and ate only half of the potato that came as the side. The strawberry rhubarb pie was also a tasty treat. The truffles they sell are also fun and tasty.
The atmosphere was part wild west and part hunting club. So, you get to enjoy a cow mounted on a wall above you watching you eat them.
The service is great. I was regularly checked on, and everyone was so kind. This was indeed an excellent place for food.

We drove an hour based upon recommendations from several friends and a review of the menu online. Only to find all of the recommended items had been removed from the menu but not the website. The server said she had advised management that the website was out of date, but they had not changed it. Based upon all of the recommended items being removed and the extremely limited menu left we will never return and will advise the folks who had recommended it of the changes.

Bison burger advertised as 1/2 lb. My homemade 1/3 lb burgers (lean) are the same size. This wasn’t a 1/2 lb burger. The patty was tasty but the bun was approaching hard, not soft like a potato bun should be (as was advertised).
Chicken on the two salads looked baked and was dry. Definitely not grilled. Skip the chicken on your salad, not worth the $4 extra.
French fries tasted great but the portion was tiny.
Not a great value overall but probably the best thing going in Cimarron for dinner. If I was coming off a 10 day hike at Philmont I’m sure it would be amazing compared to trail food.

Waited 30+ minutes for one meal to come out after everyone else's meals came out, had servings barely enough to feed a baby, wrong meal came from the kitchen and staff tried to gaslight us, and rude servers when we asked how long of a wait would be left.

We ordered several items of which the beef burrito was the worst. It was filled with bland beef- no sauce, chili, seasoning, rice, or cheese. It was all wrapped in a store-bought tortilla and sparsely covered in a thin green chili.
The honey glazed pork chop was dry and overcooked. The "glaze" had a viscosity slightly above water. It came with a baked potato and the only vegetable option was corn. So, it effectively came with two starches.
The burger was put together well with all the fixings. However, the beef was cooked beyond well-done and again was bland.
We did enjoy the spicy pickle appetizer.
The beer was cold and the margarita was ok.
My family and I having been dining here for years over our frequent trips to the area. It seems as if the food quality of this establishment is in decline.
For the money, I would strongly advise against dining here.

5 stars all around! We stumbled upon this gem on our journey home and I’m so glad we did! Go there! You’ll be glad you did! The restaurant is located inside the historic St . James hotel just off the beaten path and the food/service was fantastic. Then we explored the beautifully restored historic hotel, built in the 1870’s, and is still in use today.
