We stopped in for a quick drink and look around before our final destination. We were welcomed with open arms, a great bit of history and delicious drinks! Would have loved to stay the night and have some dinner next time!
Sadly, 9/16 was the last day of operation. Until a buyer steps up, the historic St James is closed for good (or bad).
Watch now that they're closed it'll fall in disrepair, and that piece of history will be gone forever. It sucks because I wanted to go back up there. I live in. Albuquerque. but I guess That will never happen again.

Nearby activities: The famous Boy Scout ranch, Philmont, has tours, museum and trading post. It also has tours of the donor's, Waite Phillips, vacation home Villa Philmonte.
Noteworthy details: Of course Cimarron is famous for it's Western roots. The rooms where Jesse James and Bat Masterson stayed we're great to see along with the plaques with history. The saloon (in operation) ceiling even has bullet holes from some of the rowdy guests (in the past).

The St James is closing soon so we decided to eat there one last time. We were very disappointed in that the menu was very basic- a few appetizers, salads, & mainly burgers. We realize they're closing soon but you shouldn't skimp on your menu. People have heard about it closing & are coming for one last visit. Do your due diligence and don't disappoint the experience.
Nearby activities: Lots of history in this old west town. Explore
Food and drinks: Review is about the restaurant. The hotel itself is very worth seeing.

Used to have a good menu and now it's almost nothing.

We didn't stay at the hotel, just stopped in for drinks & dinner. Which didn't happen because they close the kitchen before 8pm
Food and drinks: They don't serve food after a certain hour at the restaurant/ bar.
We came into town right before 8pm & every dining establishment in Cimarron was closed. The bar only serves chips & salsa.
I wonder if room service is only until a certain hour as well.
They most likely only have seasonal workers there. We were there August 1st & they had very little staff, the ones there were just sour. Service was non-existent. Our friends who arrived much earlier & were able to order hope they didn't lick their lettuce... We had to refill our own water & tea.
Bartender was alone, so they couldn't handle everyone's drink order. That took forever. They need to at least keep staff until September.
We ended up at Cold Beer several times during our 2 week stay.

Glad to have returned! Visiting Cimarron and staying at the St James is an experience I wish I could have more often. It is truly the hidden gem of the West.
Food & drinks: The bar and restaurant on site have some of the best food you’ll ever experience. It is a culinary experience you can’t pass up.

One of my all time favorite places! I've stayed here many times years ago and it is still just as great as ever. This is not a hotel for people you want to be spoiled! It is a true authentic old west hotel with lots of history. The rooms have original furnishings but modern utilities. No ac except for 1890s model, (open windows). The restaurant is wonderful and prices are reasonable.
Rooms: Authentic old west furnishings, communal bathrooms in the original hotel. Modern rooms with in room bathrooms in the modern annex.
Nearby activities: Aztec Mill museum, the Rayado, Philmont Scout Ranch and museum, Cimarron Canyon.
Walkability: Aztec Mill museum is a short walk, as are a number of other historic buildings.
Food & drinks: Good food and drinks. I had the Bison burger with sweet potato fries. Delicious!
Noteworthy details: Almost every famous person from the old west stayed here. You can see when they stayed in the guest register in the lobby. Wyatt and Morgan Earp, Bat Masterson, Bill Cody, Billy the Kid, Clay Allison, Doc Holiday and many others stayed. And of course TJ who angrily haunts rm. 18, which is kept locked. If you're lucky and open, you might get to see other ghosts including Mary Lambert.
