I had my first interaction with a racist officer, and it was an officer from this department. My family made a poor decision, we drove on a closed road; I accept we were wrong. However, the cop with a very overly aggressive tone yelled at us and then at when we had turned around and were leaving the officer made a racist comment. The officer called us Monkeys; I have been called many things in life but a person who is supposed to serve and represent the community I was dissatisfied. We were from out of town, when I got back home and called the department to report the officer's behavior, the officer I spoke with on the phone refused to give me the name of the officer. The officer on the phone said I had to come back to Mesilla to make a complaint, but one problem I live on the other side of the country. To conclude this review all I have to say is the town of Mesilla and other neighboring town watch out for this department's officers; with attitude of that racist officer, that officer is a ticking time bomb.
