They closed for good this weekend. I don't know what happened, it was so busy. Landlord has put up for lease signs,,,, such a shame.

Best soul food around! The food takes time but it is well worth the wait. The staff was nice and the food was delicious.

I was so excited for this place to open. We really enjoyed it in its previous locationTook 45 minutes for the food to come out. The iced tea was instant. All of our food was over cooked and had no flavor. Has to be the worst meal we ever ordered

Food was pretty darn good, especially the collard greens. I also had the cat fish. Wait staff service was excellent. The only hitch was my dining partner's dinner came about 15 minutes after mine did. He didn't seem to mind tho, as he is easy going. I will come back

Waited over an hour. When discussed ng to leave, and aitress said it would be 10 minutes. 15 minutes later, decided to leave. Was told food was being plated. I ordered 1 item, 2 sides. A table of 4 who showed up 20 minutes after I did was served within 30 min. Will return to try it again. Maybe when they have their ducks in a row.

I came to Miss AJ's with high hopes. We don't have a good southern place in cruces and really need one. I had the Okra, which was really very good, but I went there for the chicken and waffles and they didn't have waffles? No explanation was provided for why there were no waffles. Usually providing an explanation makes the disappointment more palatable. They said they would substitute it with Texas toast, which was disappointing, but I was really looking forward to chicken and waffles, so I said okay. I did get chicken, but it was a chicken breast. Between two cold, un-toasted pieces of white bread with cheddar cheese and bacon? I did not order a chicken sandwich. And there was no syrup. I was very disappointed. No explanation for this was given by the server either on this. I really love the art on the walls and the location, but I'm not a fan of harsh florescent lighting and the tables could use some decoration that makes it really say ‘unique southern restaurant'. I can tell that Miss AJ is a wonderful home cook, but I don't think it's translating very well to the restaurant.

It took an hour to receive our food. The chicken was not fried all the way and it was cold, the chips were stale and the Mac and cheese was dry. Our daughter tasted her hot wings and they tasted sour. The cat fish was not blackened and the shrimp was over cooked. This was disappointing, needless to say we did not finish our food. We do not recommend this place and we will not be returning.

I have been there twice an other than the wait the food is amazing. I say give them time they will get it together. But overall the food and hospitality is amazing.

I was looking forward to a good southern restaurant in Las Cruces. I read the reviews about it being slow and it is beyond slow. I waited for 50 minutes for 2 sandwiches. It took 10 minutes to get water and we were never asked for a refill. I noticed other people getting up and asking for water or other things because there was really no one attending to the guests. The place was full of flies and there were several tables that were never cleaned off. I really hope they get things together because we really need a place like that here.

MY EXPERIENCE, YOUR CHOICE ON TRYING THE PLACE: The restaurant was not even halfway full of people, I would say less than moderately busy, all I asked for was a cheeseburger and fries, I waited for 45 minutes .When it came out, there was a whopping 10 fries on the plate and lite bread for the bun. To include: no mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes or onions. literally meat, cheese and bread. I asked the server does a hamburger not even come on a bun, she expressed I do not know.

If I could give negative stars I would. The server is so antisocial and makes you feel uncomfortable. The food took 1 hr and 34 minutes to get brought out to us and we got absolutely no refills during that wait. Did I mention half the menu was unavailable?

It was good as hell the fried chicken and grits with shrimp were delicious. The kool aid surprised me but damn was it good. The fried pickles were perfect and the staff was very friendly and made me feel very welcomed.

Two of my friends got food poisoning from her food. Alligator and catfish, stay away from that. Ask if it is fresh, even though they might lie again.

At first you can't believe it. Soul food in New Mexico?? Naturally, you're a little skeptical, even as you approach the restaurant entrance. But when you open the doors, step into its bright, open interior, hear the old school soul and funk from the speakers, and see Ms. AJ's warm, inviting smile beckoning, you can't help but feel relaxed. And then when you notice the kitchen staff is black folks, any lingering doubts quickly vanish. The friendly wait staff is quick to greet, and menus are already at all tables, which I really like. There's good balance of choices, but the menu definitely doesn't feel bloated. Section titles and dish names match the soulful theme of the restaurant. Appetizers are "Temptations" and the kids menu is under "Youngins." Many dishes have fun names too, like "Dem Aggie Deviled Eggs" and "Mercy, Mercy, Me!" As expected, there's plenty of heavenly deep fried goodness, but several other dishes to choose from too. Don't even get me started on the made from scratch side dishes, desserts, and cornbread. Felt like I was back home for the holidays. PLUS THEY HAVE KOOL-AID! And to top it off they're open til 11pm Fri & Sat, so you can finally get a home cooked meal in this town after 9. Can't recommend this spot enough! You should go on down & get you a plate!
