The food was so great I was sad I was full because I would have had all the rest too. We didn't tell it was a bday dinner but the server must have heard when we were talking and my husband got a bday dessert. Just a bit too bad when sitting on outside patio the tables are very close to each other.

Lovely as always. The food is just exquisite and so very delicious. I can't think of anything we have ever ordered and have not liked. Our server, Belen, was knowledgeable and attentive. We have discovered our love of sake through our dining experiences at Izanami. Highly recommend!

I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. From our server, Mari, to the bartender, Ozz, our visit was wonderful! The A5 wagyu from Japan, thinly sliced, cooked by myself on a 500 degree rock, was fantastic! Our sake was wonderful. Ozz listened carefully to the flavors we like before delivering perfect yuzu sakes to us! The ambiance was happy and welcoming.

My wife and I had a reservation on the heated patio for her birthday. The patio was beautiful there are hot and cold spots depending on your table location and if you sit by the outer walls. They do provide blankets, which is a nice touch. We ordered the vegetarian rice balls and a tempura shrimp roll to start. The rice balls were very good, but the tempura roll never came out... the server denied that I ordered it! We also had the pork ribs and a vegetarian tofu pasta dish, both were very good. We were one of two couples on the patio and I feel that the service we received was second to those patrons in the restaurant.

We have been here several times. It it always a treat to be able to have dinner @ Izanami. The walk up was lovely at dusk - the waterfall at the entry covered in ice. Last night, the hostess graciously reseated us when it turned out the party behind us thought they were at an outdoor concert and were loud and obnoxious for the Zen spirit Izanami exudes. New table was perfect. Our waiter Aiverson, started by offering us a flight of 3 sakes to try when I was unsure where to land in their extensive list. That was so helpful - we made a choice perfect for us. I love that you can order things one at a time... so the table's not crowded w/ food! We tried 2 of the Futo Maki rolls. The yellowfin tuna the clear winners now crab & avocado needed a little ‘jazz'- green chile? Aiverson checked on us often enough to feel taken care of, but not pestered. Really loved the Grilled Avocado & the Sea Bass. And the mushrooms were a wonderful flavor Really wish we'd have booked here twice during our trip.

The "paparadelle" dish made with delicate tofu noodles and miso butter mushrooms is rich and delicious!

Overly enthusiastic server who disappeared toward the end of meal when we were wanting to close. Food was so so.

Izanami is one of our favorite restaurants and this time we had the pork tacos, smoked pork ribs and Japanese mushrooms. It was such a treat. We'll be back!

Izanami was a treat! The food was delicious and the service was outstanding! Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the food selections and very helpful as we explored the menu for the first time. Eating there was an experience as well as a meal. We would highly recommend this restaurant!

Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ (0/5) If you are looking for a dining experience that combines the glacial pace of a DMV waiting room with the culinary finesse of a gas station heat lamp, then Izanami in Santa Fe is the place for you. What was supposed to be a celebratory holiday dinner for three turned into a 2.5-hour endurance test in frustration, incompetence, and unearned pretension. The Food: A Race to the Bottom The meal began with a Wasabi Caesar Salad that was "atrocious" would be a generous description—it was a flavorless vacuum. Things took a sharp turn for the worse with the Salmon Croquettes, which arrived stone cold. After a 20-minute wait for management, the "fresh" replacements were brought out... also cold. It takes a special kind of technical failure to fail at reheating a dish twice. The "pièce de résistance" of failure was the A5 Wagyu Beef Sirloin. To call this Wagyu is an insult to Japanese cattle. I have had "Choice" cuts from a Walmart clearance bin that possessed more tenderness and character than the tough, gristly slabs served to us. To add insult to injury, the accompanying gravy was ice cold. Serving three identical plates of "premium" beef, all equally substandard and cold, isn't a fluke—it’s a systemic lack of care. The Service: Indifference as an Art Form The service didn't just miss the mark; it wasn't even in the same zip code. Every time a major issue arose, we were forced to sit for 15 to 20 minutes before a manager deigned to visit our table. In a restaurant of this supposed "caliber," a manager should be at a table within seconds of a returned course, not after a fifth of an hour has passed. By the time the desserts arrived (which were "fine," though by that point, tap water would have seemed like a luxury), the kitchen had struck out so many times we simply refused any further "remakes." The Management: "Too Bad" The true absurdity occurred when the check arrived. Despite sending back every single course and enduring hours of delays, the staff presented a full-price bill as if we had just enjoyed a Michelin-star feast. When I confronted management, I was met with a shrug and the baffling claim that the food was "up to their standards." If cold croquettes and tough-as-leather beef meet your standards, your standards are in the basement. Even after the Executive Chef became involved and asked what would make it right, there was no immediate sense of accountability for the "insult to injury" we experienced. The Verdict: Izanami is a restaurant coasting on a reputation it no longer deserves. They offer "high-end" prices for "low-end" execution. Save your time, your money, and your palate—Santa Fe has far better to offer than this overpriced, cold, and arrogant disappointment.
