Kohnami Japanese restaurant

This place has really fallen off. Service was non-existent. Food was ok, not what it used to be. Atmosphere was decent but it was empty.

Kohnami is recently under new ownership but the quality and value remain. It is one of our few places in Santa Fe to meet a friend for lunch. This local neighborhood restaurant is a treasure. The lunch bento box is probably one of the best values in this pricey city. The food quality and presentation are excellent, as is the attentive service. We hope the weather will continue to allow us to eat outside for at least a while longer. Kohnami offers take out and indoor dining as well, with a traditional Japanese room in addition to safely spaced tables. On the weekends, one can park for free around the corner in the State Workforce parking lot.

Food is always remarkable and fairly priced. I have become a new frequent of the restaurant and I’m never disappointed. I always leave full and happy! On my recent visit I had the Santa Fe Roll and the Lady Bug Roll. Both are phenomenal! I always also get Miso Soup, White Rice, and the Green Chile Tempura which never disappoint. One small critique is the inconsistency of the service provided. Some days it’s very attentive and professional, others it’s more laid back and spacey. Aside from that the food always delivers.

In terms of atmosphere, the sushi bar was giving Dave the Diver early game vibes. We had the udon in the metal bowl and the cold soba. Both were ridiculously flavorful, and the noodles had good texture. They both came with tempura, which had just the right amount of crunch; it was juicy on the inside, crunchy on the outside - just right. The staff were nice, and even gave us a discount for the food taking a little while. We didn't even notice until they mentioned it, so it shows they were paying attention, which is a sign of good service imo. Plus the discount we didn't ask for, to me, shows good management. We went early, so it wasn't very busy yet. If you go during a busy time, then your experience might differ. 10/10 (BTW, it's downtown, so be prepared to find parking)

The sushi is good enough BUT They have no idea what karaage is supposed to be though as I ordered it and essentially received dried marinated chicken. It’s insulting to be a Japanese restaurant and attempt to even call that karaage in which the definition is marinated chicken coated in some kind of flour and deep fried so that it has a crispy exterior and a moist interior. This was NOT that. Embarrassing to Japan.

We got there around 6-7pm (rush hours I’d say) but we got our food on time and the server was attentive and polite. Overall, we had a nice experience in Kohnami, Will always go back if we r back to Santa Fe in the future

Terrible service! Me and my friend went to Konami and had a terrible experience with our server. She was consistently short with us, got our order wrong, forgot some of our food, and then spilt hot miso soup all over our table and in our waters, etc. After spilling the soup she did not bring any napkins or offer help to clean it but rather shortly apologized and left. Leaving us to eat on the wet table. My total was $53, the restaurant charged $124 to my card. Ridiculously different from the amount I should have paid. I have called to try and resolve this matter and get my money back but they have been extremely unhelpful.
While the food is good the terrible service is not worth it and I will recommend against coming here to anyone who asks me.

I’m not sure what the bad reviews were about. Every person in the front of the restaurant talked to us at one point or another during our evening there. They were friendly and timely. The food portions were huge and the food was delicious. The ambience is by no means Japanese in style, but the seating was comfortable. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting some Japanese food. It was very similar to food which we ate in Japan, though a little more salty. Heads up.-Japanese food is not spicy. If that’s what you’re looking for go to a Thai or a Vietnamese restaurant.

Just had lunch there today. The food was excellent and so was the service. “Melissa” was wonderful. She made sure everything was done just right and we had everything we needed. Will be going back again. Yes!
New owners, a positive for an established restaurant.

Food is very delicious. Bento boxes are perfect for lunch. Not crowded, very cozy and atmospheric place.
Staff does not disturb every few minutes which is a great advantage for me.

Kohnami is a favorite place to eat for my boyfriend and I, but the service of the older, grey-haired waitress that works during the day is just ridiculous.
We understand having a bad day but we've never once had good service when she's there. However, we've seen her be a complete delight to tables with older people. She's ruining this Santa Fe Favorite for many people and it's sad to see.
We walked in today and were told by a nice gentleman to have a sit wherever and after sitting for a few minutes she came around the corner, saw us, made a noise and turned around. A few minutes later, she gave us a couple of cups of water and just walked away. We sat there for maybe 10 minutes and she never came back even though there was only one other table.
