so, this was jalapeños, and now under new ownership as “sunrise”.
i must say i’m very disappointed that they simply appropriated the jalapeños listing on google maps.
you need to earn those years of high ratings, and sunrise, scarcely a week young, did not. the new menu also has nothing to do with the original jalapeños menu.
That said, the owners are really nice, and we have dined here twice this week.
Jalapeños was fully a mexican restaurant, and indubitably the best Mexican restaurant in taos. meanwhile,Sunrise is just another ricky’s , with a few mexican dishes. This is not amexican restaurant.
Note to owners, that ricky’s and michaels have the low quality junk food, gluten and sugar fields fully covered for taos.
taos just lost a great and successful mexican restaurant, so please go that direction instead of the black hole of ricky’s.
leave the wraps and cheese burgers to mcdonalds across the street.
we need good Mexican food!
sunrise restaurant is NOT grossly overpriced as one customer recently complained.
there is not a lower priced mexican restaurant in taos than sunrise.

Vegetarian options: none of google’s choices ever fit for the vegetarian options.
there are really no vegetarian choices, yet the cook will likely accommodate requests.
however, this is no haven for vegetarians

Dietary restrictions: perhaps possible. certainly not what they specialize in

Wheelchair accessibility: ground level, no problem

Had the chorizo breakfast burrito with Xmas chili and was very impressed. Staff is friendly and it’s a chill diner. Would recommend for a quiet breakfast.

We drove to Taos and didn't expect much from this resto because there was only a lone customer when we came in. Boy, oh boy! The food was dee-luscious!!! We had the arrachera quesadilla and the al pastor tacos! Heavenly mexican food! ?

the new owners are really great, and very attentive.
instead of a fully Mexican restaurant as Jalapeños was, it’s more of a diner now, with some Mexican food, which is unfortunate. when Jalapeños was packed full with no tables available, it was because of amazing Mexican food, not for diner food.
please leave the rubbish diner food to Ricky’s. Taos does not need another Ricky’s.
Sunrise, please be the new favorite Mexican restaurant for Taos! also, please consider making tortillas de maiz on location, it makes a great Mexican restaurant.

Vegetarian options: no options, except chips and salsa

Dietary restrictions: previously there were choices, but not so many options any more

Parking: lot fills up, but we always find a spot

Kid-friendliness: somewhat

Tacos were great the salsas were excelent... fish and chips was good. Patio was nice. All at a reasonable cost we'll be back to try the birria on an up coming weekend for sure.

Formerly Jalapenos but now Sunrise
I took my grandmother here for lunch. The menu is very different from what it was before. Many of the items are not available after breakfast. There were also lots of misspellings on the menu, it seemed every other item was spelled wrong. I saw that sandwich was spelled "sandwish", soup was spelled "spup", etc. I think the menu needs to be redone to correct these typos because they really are everywhere
The stuffed sopapilla which I used to like was taken off the menu. While we were trying to figure out what to order a very disturbed vagrant came inside the restaurant and began yelling/acting incoherently. He smelled horrendous and it made us very nauseous. As he was starting to cause a scene, we decided to leave since we were feeling sick and not hungry anymore.
As I was pulling away, he was starting to strip outside of the restaurant

Nostalgic moment sitting where we sat when it was Stella’s 210 a few years ago so a comfortable start. It was lunch so I passed on the Huevos Mexicana that I had read about.
Deb had a chicken burrito with green chili. She said it about a three star offering. I had fish and chips and was hoping for better. The chips (fries to non Brits) were good a solid 4+, not greasy, nice texture and tasty. I have mixed feelings about ketchup in packets but don’t think bottled ketchup is necessary especially if the fries are the only dish for it. The tartar sauce was good. The fish was a nice light golden but greasy to touch and it appeared there was a space inside between the fish flesh and the coating. I mention that because there was a sense of undercooked coating both in taste and feel. The traditional offering with fish and chips is malt vinegar but local tastes may lean in another direction.

I plan to return to try the Huevos Mexicana because I really like eggs and the dish is intriguing.

The coffee was quite good and the service was friendly and attentive.

Came and tried for the first time since they've opened up just recently and the food was fantastic.. we had the Saturday & Sunday specials, birria tacos(not quesa-birria, there is a difference) and Menudo.. my daughter had the kids Quesadilla.. definitely great pricing.. Everything on the menu sounds delicious.. definitely a return place and recommend stopping by.. you'll love the salsa that come with the chips..

The worst Al Pastor tacos ever!!! We had to ask for silverware. The salsa was the best thing brought to our table. Very disappointed and will never go back.
