Not the greatest breakfast, but hey it’s free with the stay!

The room was filthy. Cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, dirt around all areas that could not be seen. The plug hole in the sink in the bathroom was rusting and no plug in a bath that to put it mildly had seen better days. The toilet was leaking on the floor. In all ways the room was dilapidated and in severe need of a complete refit. I would highly recommend avoiding this place.

The room was filthy dirty. I checked in at 9:45 pm. Office closes at 10 pm. I asked for another room, but they were ‘sold out’. There was dirt and dust on the floors. I had to clean and mob the floor w one of their towels, so we could sleep. My son has Asthma, so sleeping in a dusty and dirty environment would not work. No Kleenex in the box, either. The next day I complained. The receptionist, while lovely, could not too much. The owner, Salama, originally from Somalia, did not care. No apology for my experience. She did not even acknowledge my concern. I would not recommend this place.

Restaurant open only in the morning for hotel guests, buffet, not bad but room for improvement. Much better than other hotels that just don't have one.

Was stoked to try something without reviewing for once; let’s say that mistakes were made.

I really wanted to love this little place but the greeter was the first issue. Larger gal who was on her cell the entire time and didn’t seem to care much.

Asked me to pay before eating the breakfast buffet; $21 and asked for tip? For a buffet where I pay loads of money to serve myself? That’s funny.

Fine. But after tasting the food I could see why someone would dine and dash.

Eggs looked like mini SpongeBob SquarePants with holes all around them and tasted like they were from powder, sausage was dry and seemed like prison food, and everything else including pancakes and hash browns were all obviously from frozen.

Hey, sometimes frozen is fine if you pull it off correctly for a buffet. I get it it’s MASS QUANTITIES done FAST. But honestly all you need to do is cook the frozen food for the proper amount of time or add some kind of simple sauce or seasoning.

But the cooks here didn’t seem to think that was necessary so everything tasted terrible.

And for that I’m giving a 2 star because at least the place is kinda cozy. 2 stars for being cozy is more than fair.

Felt like the cost of this motel was a bit high, but all the lodging in Cheticamp near the Cape Breton Highlands Nat Park was expensive. Our upstairs room was large and clean and the WIFI was acceptable. Beds were comfortable. The included breakfast buffet was similar to what one would expect from a mid-priced, US motel chain, but left something to be desired of our European tastes. The coffee was terrible.

Pluses: beds were comfortable, breakfast was included in price and was good. Good location - not far from restaurants, stores. Minuses: rooms were "rustic" - old furniture showing lots of signs of wear. Bugs and cobwebs in room. Floor in bathroom around toilet was super unclean and urine stained. Rooms need a thorough cleaning and upgrading. The hotel boasted free wifi but I couldn't even get a wifi signal. Needed help from staff to get the TV to work cause problems getting a signal. Evening office staff very unfriendly but day staff and cleaning staff friendly. The amount charged for our room was excessive for the condition of the room.

You really don't have to go there. Carelessly prepared pseudo buffet. Staff is bored and engaged only on the smartphone.

Rooms were not very clean. Nor did.we find the bedding to be fresh. Toilet wiggled when someone sat down. Breakfast buffet made everyone sick. Reservations agent was really nice at check in. Tv signal did not come in for most channels, plus wifi was so low none of our electronics would connect.

I have stayed at Laurie's many times through the years. It was always good value. The rooms are kept clean, but are a bit crowded. When I was in # 11 in 2018 and 2019, the door lock was difficult. It still is! The hair dryer was broken then and still is. There are no hand grips for the tub. This is a safety issue. Like many places in NS in recent years, this motel is hanging on until tourism is back to pre pandemic numbers. The big plus at Laurie's is the breakfast buffet! It is outstanding. Sheila's and the cook do a great job keeping food hot and counters clean. I love the porridge and scrambled eggs and French toast. Nice tables and lots of healthy options! I hope I will be back!

the shower did not work. not enough water pressure to make it turn on, shower tap’s falling out of wall, mold growing on tub, caulking peeling. was like an old 1970s run down hotel and when reported there wasnt much of a concern. There are alot nicer places out there for what they charge.

Musty smell but once we aired out the room that was fine. Dated but very clean. Beds were super comfortable…could have used another few pillows. Handy location to lots of restaurants, stores and sights. Amazing free breakfast and very friendly dining room staff!

Food was tasteless. Very expensive for what you get. Staff was indifferent.
