Used to be good years ago, now, overpriced for most foods that arent even homemade! Fish cakes are frozen, fries from frozen, etc etc. don’t know what people see about it that’s appealing other than only place open and have no choice when one is on holiday.

We stopped for lunch in this restaurant and the food was just okay. The only thing that was good was the veggie basket with deep fried onion rings, zucchini, cauliflower, batter fried mushrooms, and broccoli - cheese bites. The fish, mashed potatoes, veggies, and the dinner roll were all very bland and had no flavor.

However, one good thing about this place is the large quantity for the price.

Vegetarian options: They were out of the tomato vegetable soup which I really wanted to try. Other than that and the deep fried veggie platter, there are no other hot meal options for vegetarians.

Stopped for lunch on September 25, 2024. The server was very nice and friendly. The food quality is extremely poor. The meat pie was tasteless…lots of dough and no meat, the fries are frozen from a bag. You can tell the owner is cutting costs and there is absolutely no love with the food quality and preparation. If you want lunch in Chéticamp, try Last Chance Sandwiches. All made fresh on the spot, healthy choices, salads, etc. You will not be disappointed. You will get value for price paid.

Stopped here for breakfast on our way out of town. Nothing fancy just a hearty breakfast and good coffee. The eggs were tasty and cooked perfect over easy, crispy but not overcooked bacon hash browns and toast.

We decided to sample local dishes, poutine with the works, meat pie, and chicken fricot. Since we aren’t from the area, it is hard to determine what was good. I only really liked the fricot. My wife didn’t care for the cuisine. In fairness, we really wouldn’t know if the poutine or meat pie was good or not.

Looking and listening to what was going on in the establishment leads us to believe that it is a popular spot among the locals, so our guess is that the local fare is quite good.

Dinner at Restaurant Evangeline, Cheticamp, Nova Scotia
One word – don’t. The food was terrible. You get what you pay for. My husband, who is Franco-American wanted to try the Franco-American plate with a fish cake, meat pie and vegetables. This dish was absolutely bland. I had a hot turkey sandwich- not much better. The vegetables on the side were mushy carrots and canned peas. Even though the service was fast, I couldn’t wait to get out of there. I felt sorry for the waitresses. This was the second worst restaurant we visited on our entire trip to Cape Breton. Rate 1 out of 5.

A nice spot for a relatively affordable, but quality meal. Ordered the Evangeline Burger and the chocolate milkshake which were both good.

If you just need a quick stop on your way to or from the Cabot Trail and are not too hungry, this is the perfect place.

Parking: Parking is available across the street in a small parking lot. Not a ton of spaces.

I came here with my sister and niece, from Denver, Colorado passing through to the skyline trail..we were here to lay our mother to rest..one of our cousins recommended this little spot for a great breakfast and it was delicious..the homemade brown sugar maple syrup made by her daughter was absolutely amazing ??
Not to mention she also is quite the little chef.
Being a previous owner of a 5 star cafe I think I can say honestly we had a wonderful experience..the service was wonderful..they have handicap access.. parking is easy across the street and on the street!
Nice seating, very clean! I really can’t say much more then this other than Thank you Thank you Thank you for the delicious syrup ?and breakfast..see you next year! ?

I didn't dine there but ordered a 12" spicy chicken pizza for takeout. Pretty good, crusty, and crispy bottom.
