Hate to write this as a Cape bretoner I love the doryman and love seeing a show there. Went in October and they refused to serve us water after 9:00 (apparently they can’t serve tap water after the kitchen closes) they charged us 3.25 for a small bottle of water. Really weird experience. Never seen that anywhere else on the island. We had bought food and drinks and paid cover.

Had the Mozzarella Sticks, Hot Hamburg and Sirloin Steak here. Sirloin steak was quite over done. Portions were hearty with lots of mashed potatoes. Service was friendly and atmosphere was great.
One of the few places open at the end of October in off season - so thank you! Kitchen closes at 8pm and place closes at 9pm - so get there for at least 7:15ish!

Great atmosphere and live entertainment made for a great experience. The chicken wings are large and delicious, cheesy fries should just come with real bacon for the price not the fake red flakes. All and all would be back!

Great spot for East Coast pub food, beer, and live music. The fish cakes and seafood chowder were excellent. Service was good considering how busy the place was. Note that there is often live music played here and so a cover charge may apply.

Terrible experience due to being hustled out of $24 by the door man for music that we didn’t get to hear. We didn’t have any cash on us and they kept trying to hustle cash out of us so eventually when the ATM was broken, they made us go back to the ATM and keep trying even as our hot food was sitting there getting cold. Everything about our cabin trail experience was great except for this was horrible and I would never come back. I still can’t believe we were swindle out of $24, when we arrived, it was well before 6 PM. We were leaving right around six as the music begun., paid $24 heard one song around 6:15 and left…
Came in, asked where we could sit, there were empty tables on one side of the restaurant but were told we can’t sit there and we’d have to team up / sit with some other table, no problem, those folks were accepting. We figured we couldn’t sit on that side because you’d have to pay cover, which we didn’t want to as we showed up before the music and planned to leave after our meal literally as the music was starting. The door man more or less would not take no for an answer on the $12 (each) cover charge. We told him we didn’t want to stay for the music We didn’t have cash so we tried to use the ATM for the cover charge, it didn’t work. We asked if we could put it on our bill, he said no. Then basically walked us over to the ATM to make us keep trying to get the cash out, all while our hot meals are sitting on the table… didn’t leave us with a nice feeling. Food was ok, server was good, just can’t get over that experience and won’t be back as a result.

It was OK. They had no lobster when we visited. Fish was really good, chowder was good, fish cakes weren't. Wouldn't stop here again if we were driving through.

Delicious food! Service was a little slow but they were really busy so it was understandable. It was still good service except the woman suggested a sauce and didn’t explain that there was a charge for it. The fries were delicious though and the maple bacon wings were fantastic!! So was the soup.

Great food and service. The fish was the best I ever had. The server was friendly as well as the atmosphere. Very scenic looking over the water watching the sun set.
We were told this was the local watering hole so we headed over for dinner and live music. The place isn't fancy but the service was excellent and the food was very good. I had the club sandwich, my son's had the Philly cheese sandwich and the dooryman burger and we all really enjoyed our meals. The live music was a nice bonus.

Would not go back and if it weren’t our first stop after a 4 hour ride we would have read the reviews first and probably kept on driving. It is a seat yourself restaurant with no sign or even the staff to direct you which makes it very awkward. The vibe inside is rather odd and I’m sure anyone other than local stand out when you walk in.
It was a busy lunchtime rush so understandable that the waitstaff were busy. We waited a long time for our food and when we finally got it it was warm at best and it wasn’t what I had ordered. The battered fish was greasy and the chowder was a very small portion. The waitress did offer to make it right but we had already waited so long and it really was not a big deal but definitely not worth the wait either. We waited even longer for our waitress to return as she never once asked if we needed anything or if our meal was ok. Again, wish we read reviews ahead of time but at least our trip around The Cabot Trail erased and not so pleasant stop along the way.

Had a fabulous afternoon at the Doryman —treated to live music, stepping from locals and even some square dancing. Food was delicious and just what was needed after a day of the Cabot Trail and hiking the skyline trail. Service was amazing considering the place was packed to the brim. The server kept checking in that everything was OK. She’s a master! 10/10 recommend this stop!
